Santoni -- new line of shoes?

I noticed on Santoni's website that they now have an option for buying direct from them. Here's a recent press release from an Italian company that's hosting the ecommerce site. The shoes seem to be fatte a mano and/or goodyear models -- with many described as "Entirely handcrafted" -- and are mostly in the ballpark of 500 Euro.

From my limited past experience, these types of models have had retail pricing levels of $1,000+. Do these represent some sort of new line or new venture from Santoni? Have they recently expanded their production of higher end models to be able to offer greater quantities at lower prices?

Any thoughts? As a fan of Santoni shoes, I'm just curious...

I'm not feeling most of the styles/finish at or around the 500 euro price. This 1500 euro "Limited Edition" one-piece lace up antique soft calf and leather sole. Comfortable and stylish for every occasion. Entirely handcrafted" looks like a well constructed shoes. I didn't think there was still a demand (if there ever was?) for hidden stitches? I have only one pair and I never wear them.

^^^^ I agree ^^^^^

If you want a classic, conservative shoe you are much better off looking at the English makers in terms of price versus quality, IMO.

If you want a special finish, or an unusual configuration that only Santoni offers then go for it. I really like my Santonis - but because of the styling and finish - not the tremendous construction quality for the price.

The model is a custom config that was made up exclusively for Harrods. The box label refers to it as the Laurence 'Wincap' in Navy.

Sorry you guys don't like the lacing motif. But seriously it's just a little something fun to do something different since they are pretty frivolous shoes to begin with. I'm sure at some point I'll get bored and change them again. biggrin.gif
