Would making something like this be easy/practical/or even look good?

I am completely confused as to what to wear for New years.... This caught my eye... but not going to spend $3500 or so on it. So, Im looking at perhaps buying a one button navy blazer very similar to it - minus the Bailsman additions of course.

And then ordering on line or somehow finding the Navy ship Captain bands for the arms, and then the rank patches along the collar. And then to add a little bit of individuality I wanted to put a strip of black fabric - from an old black suit that doesn't fit anymore - along the edges, and the lapels of the blazer. Kinda to give it a Marine blazer look.

And then add make pockets on both sides of the chest and waist out of black fabric, as well as the epaulettes in black. But, with ill put the actually eppellate sleeve in red, but with no rank on it.

Or would it be better with gold coloured outlining, thus matching the brass buttons i intend putting on it. Both to close the pockets on the chest, and then for the jacket closure, and then for the napoleon cuff closures.

Maybe this makes me backwards, but I don't like this imitation of military stuff- not when it goes this far. You're not military, don't pretend to be. Epaulets, pea coats, sure. Rank insignia? I'd pass.
