Major American clothing retailers with any salary-only non-managerial salespeople?

Meaning paid a salary and no opportunity to earn a commission.

Yes, serious question. Yes, from a business standpoint, that might not make sense. Still, does anyone know if there are salespeople (not managers or owners) at major American clothing stores who are paid that way? Edit: if so, name the stores, please.

Hmm... I think they all pay commission. That is to say: stores with a high(er) base salary or hourly rate tend to have some marginal commission (1-3%). The best bet is normally high-end boutiques.

Macy's? When it was Hecht's only Men's suits was commission, the rest were just hourly.

Jos. A. Bank allegedly pays hourly with almost no commission. Salaried regardless of commission seems like a rarity.

are you saying salaried but not hourly? ie a flat weekly rate with 'expected' hours like it's an office job or something?

I've worked plenty of retail where there's a basic hourly rate with no commission, but as the scheduled hours per week fluctuate, so does the pay that week.

I dunno. A friend used to work there and he told me that he just got a paycheck for his hourly wages, not commission on anything he sold.

Right. Because in theory, such an employee would be least likely to push on the customer something that is not a fair deal for him. Also overlapping would be greater experience and knowledge on the employee side.
