J Crew Dress Shirts

Has anyone ever purchased dress shirts from J Crew? They are currently 30% which is very very tempting. I just picked up on the BB dress shirt trend, I wonder how they compare.

J Crew does not make dress shirts.....

They aren't THAT bad. I have a few and they fit slimmer than anything you would get from another mall brand.

Quality is lacking.

So I actually strolled over to the store to check out their "dress shirts" and like Ter said, they "don't make dress shirts." They call them dress shirts but they aren't dress shirts in my book. They are very soft cotton and the collar is really lacking. Quality did not look so good, even at $60. Thanks for the replies

to clarify:

J.Crew does make "dress shirts." They just don't sell them at most of their retail stores.

98% of what they carry in the stores are their "secret wash" shirts, which suck (though are super comfortable for things like washing your car, or whatever) and come S-M-L sizes. But they do indeed produce dress shirts sized by neck and sleeve measurements online (and some made with Thomas Mason fabric—a gimmick, maybe, but the fabric is quite nice). The problem, as has been pointed out, is that the collars are short, per the current trend, most are point collars and I'm guessing they're fused and stiff.

I got a J.Crew Thomas Mason shirt one time as a gift for my brother, and I love the fabric, but the rest of the details left a bit to be desired (the fit was baggier then, so it may be slimmer today). It has a point collar (good for wearing tie-less or with the top button unbuttoned with a tie, but bad for wearing a tie for real), and the construction of the shirt feels a bit flimsy (collar feels flimsy, stitching seems cheap, cuffs have a large opening as would be expected a cheap OTR shirt sized Large).

There "neck and sleeve" dress shirts are what I was referring to. I don't consider them dress shirts by any means. They are just their secret wash shirt like you said. They have no collar and are not stiff enough to be a dress shirt. I tried it on with a tie and felt silly. BTW I like the secret wash shirts at $40 for a casual shirt, can't go wrong.

They're a decent staple and pretty much the only mass market shirt that fits skinny guys off the rack.

Not a big fan. I ordered one and it was more casual feeling than anything. At that price range it is really all about the BB extra slim fit shirts.

I purchased and returned one of their slim fit dress shirts. The quality was acceptable for a shirt on sale at about 45 bucks. I picked the same size I would in the BB extra slim and it was too big. I imagine if I sized down it would probably fit similar to the BB.

Slim fit is a relative term. I'm not exactly a skinny guy and neither the BB extra slim or JCrew slim are very slim to me. They're just the size shirts should be.

I'm 6'1 and 180 and a size medium fits me almost perfectly. I haven't tried the slim fit ones because the regular sized ones are just slim enough for me.

Agreed, for $45 their dress shirts are acceptable as a casual shirt. But by no means can they consider them dress shirts.

BB are much sharper than the J Crew ones. BB has a collar and has a dress shirt feel to them. J Crew does not, they feel like a casual shirt since they are so soft.

J.Crew has nice shirts, but I don't find them to be overly dressy. If you are going for business attire, it's very hard to top the Brooks Brothers non-iron shirt. I find that J.Crew shirts wrinkle really bad, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for a more casual shirt, but definitely not OK for a dress shirt.
