He should have paid the upcharge for shell soles. Problem solved.
They are just Aldens for crying out loud. Wear them. Wear them anywhere and everywhere.

You all need to go get yourselves a few more pairs

Now, this is only a suggestion...I am not saying that it is right for your lifestyle or if it goes well with a backpack.

Again, a suggestion only, because we all care.

I would suggest adding a nail or two for traction, but that appears to only make the problem worse:

There is only one solution:

Wearing longwings with a backpack?

No wonder you fell. Forward balance can be achieved with a robust wool and tie scarf set (may I suggest the rare 49 1/2 oz Harrisons' gunclub).

Either that or try this:

How about breast implants?

OP is clearly a practical man. These are cheaper:

Look, let's not let this thread degenerate into ridicule.

Why don't we keep solutions to shoes, shall we?

Thanks.

OP, just get a second pair of Alden longwings, like so:

Foo has several duplicate pairs of longwings just for such a purpose.

You'll need to keep your knees bent, but this will allow a swift, frog-like motion on the snow and ice that will render your usual modes of public transportation unnecesary.

I just remember some falls I had down the stairs - please immediately disregard this suggestion.

A less messier solution:

I would say get a dedicated snow shoe or get something like SWIMs, so you can get better grip.

I have one of those (she's in the avi), and I can assure you that they're considerably more costly than breast implants.

Children are NOT cheaper than breast implants.

+1...as much as I love wearing leather sole footwear, when snow or ice build up is on the ground, common sense should prevail...smile.gif
