What shirt/tie combo for this fabric?

Hi all,

I was wondering if you'd all give me some advice on shirt and/or tie pairings for this sport coat. I picked it up last month and every thing I've tried save for white seems a bit off. This is the first time I've ventured into patterned SC's. It's not this light in person, the flash seems to be doing weird things with representation...

I would stick to a solid shirt, and a tie with a small pattern - perhaps in purple or blue to pick up the color of the jacket. Or you could probably do a knit or wool tie.

Thanks. Indeed, I was thinking of some solid shirt, I wasn't exactly sure if a color other than white would be appropriate. I'm having some more shirts made up soon, so I was hoping to solicit some color options.

I tried, as an experiment, a patterned shirt with this the other week, and everyone seemed to be looking at me strangely, so I'm assuming it was a rather epic failure. That day I went to my local alterations tailor, and he definitely gave it to me straight, lol...

Ah, I'm liking that combo, thanks! Yeah, the lining seemed better in theory. I'm a fan of bold linings, but in retrospect I would've went with some solid. It's a local job, Holland & Sherry fabric.

Actually, speaking of plum ties. Spoo - what do you think of that plum Tom Ford you have listed that's ending in ~1 hour?

+1. Honestly, that's the only combo I could envision wearing with that jacket. The tie and shirt would have to be solid, to calm down the radical pattern on the jacket. Solid gray trousers.
