For fat - I found that I stay pretty lean when eating grass-fed meat. Different fat profile helps immensely - unfortunately in NYC it is a lot harder to find in restaurants than it was in SF.

I wouldn't be suprised if it was not the red meat per se but rather hormones or chemicals used to grow the animal and preserve the meat. Have you tried different sources of red meat I.e supermarket, butcher, restaurant, out of town? It is hideous what they do to food generally so they can produce and distribute on an industrial scale. I would not suprised if today's processed foods are a greater cause for things like obesity and cancer than the authorities and industry would like to admit.

If you do try to eat red meat again, and I hope you do, try and switch that part of your brain off that otherwise may lead to a self fulfilling prophecy.

Guys, this was not a physical reaction. It was a feeling of not liking the feel of eating beef. I felt sick eating it. It didn't make me sick. Just too rich, more in the mouth than body. Also was grass fed, yada yada. Quality was not the issue.

my dad had that same experience in his twenties, I believe he turned vegetarian on the spot - it was at some pub in Scotland. Never eaten meat since, been about 40 years now.

Just bought a couple of nicely aged, bone in rib-eyes for dinner. Will S&P, grill four minutes a side at inferno temp, put a big dollop of truffle butter on them.

Go have a drink right after. You'll get a lot of mileage from it.

Just set them out to come to room temp a bit. So thick, so well trimmed, nicely marbled...

Been ready for a beer for the past 6 hours. Can't wait to have a draft beer and some tonkatsu at 10:30am. Might get a burger or a little hot plate steak after that. I'm gonna eat like willy cheesesteak today. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Short ribs are pretty rich. I could understand the feeling. What about a fillet? I don't eat much red meat, but when I do, that is the cut I enjoy the most.

Matt, sorry to tell you this but you are not used to rich food!

If it were a physical thing, I have been told certain foods do not digest well do to the amounts and potency of certain acids in the stomach that aid digestion.

Fillet is fine. And it isn't that I am affected by rich food, because I eat a lot of it. I think I am just no longer a big fan of beef, of the aromas, of the taste of beef fat.

Matt, if you remember back, I had the same issue. I cannot eat ribeye etc... only tiny portions. That's why I really like a great tenderloin for a while. Cleaner, light, but still full bodied.

I do eat beef but it remains my least favorite protein, slightly ahead of turkey.
