Opinions needed!

Hi all,

I know I will get slapped for this but I will try to make it so I don't insult anyone.

I have been reading allot here for more then just a couple of days!

I tried to ask quistions here but responses seem little.

Just my observations:

- People here talk along with people who do things right! No opinions of their own!

- People are scared to go along with fassion! Everything has to be timeless although its not not possible.

- The overall thought here seems to be classic (Brittish way) "don't change what works"

Now I am not from the US but from The Netherlands close to Amsterdam.... a Fast Forward, progressive.. country.

In my opinion things here are not ALL (I have checked alot are not and some are) about style.

But more being in style with the styleforum Idea....

Maybe I used the search function alot and just read topics in my interrest... pls comment...

It still the sheeps that follow the one!! (while style imo is something you own!!!)

(with taking the risk of beeing hated)

Please share your opinionse

(I know my styleforum dutch version!)

No one here inhibits you from exploring and developing style that works for you. There are 'Rules Of Thumb' so to speak, but no limits to creativity. It is a process of learning the basics of Menswear (Streetwear or Conservative) and finding your limitations with creative combinations. An 80 year lifespan averages to only 22,000 days on the planet. Waste not one minute of it and strive toward your destiny, and while pursuing it, do it with style that pleases both you and those you wish to impress.
Welcome to Styleforum.

Also I have read so many posts of people buying new mtm suits and being flamed for the fact that they don't go along with SF style!!! If there is one man I absolutely respect it is PG!!! Not because he is extremly good dressed (and yes he is, but not everything would look that good on me!), ), but because he desides what is best for him. I still hope I get some honest answers on the responses I read here! Burn me as much as you want! but pls give me a reason!

It seems that there are enough people here that you are going to find someone who has a problem with whatever you do regardless of what that is. One person will think X is the best thing since sliced bread but hates Z. The next person is the opposite loving Z and is disgusted by X. In fact I think I just read a post like that about knit ties. And of course there are those who just seem to want to complain about everything and will be rude regardless. smile.gif

The biggest things that I have seen here is about buying quality and having stuff fit correctly. Higher quality garments tend to be on the more traditional side. The fashion brands tend the lines every 3-6 months so they need to make garments that will last 10 to 20 years because they will be very much out of style in a fairly short amount of time. Not only that but they don't want the piece to last that long because they want to sell you something else.

I have seen some that seem to think that anything less than a $5000 suit and $2000 pair of shoes isn't good enough. Well, I disagree because most of us actually work for a living and can't afford to have a closet full of items like that. And just the same could be said for the $1000 suit and $300 shoes. There are people that can't really afford to spend that. One of the biggest advantages I've seen with this site is the greater understanding of what the differences are with the different quality levels/price points and what you can do to maximize what you can afford to get. This is done through knowledge of different brands and their construction, where to shop, what sales are going on, and of course the B&S forum here.

Getting the fit right can be a bit more absolute and yet contentious all at the same time. Certain things like where the shoulders hit on a dress shirt are either right or they aren't. Other things like sleeve length, tie dimples, or sport coats/blazers with jeans can get people to argue back and forth all day. All I can say with this is listen to the different arguments and then make up your own mind. If you know the different sides of things and choose which way you want to wear it, that confidence will show through and you'll look better because of it. If someone insists on hassling you about it then you can choose to be polite and tell them that is how you like it or be a bit more snarky and tell them to bugger off.

ddonicht: Thank you alot! It seems like a honest reply!

I really like people discussing style. And having opinions on that. I don't like people gathering together and all saying that they are different (I hope you understand what I mean by talking this way).

I agree that there is alot of discussion. Fassion is a thing that should be talked about instead of being flamed!

I don't want to insult anyone but please put your opinions on this thread!
