Quick advice on formal attire?

Rather than advice, I guess it's more of a question.

Does a black suit/dress pants/shoes, black dress shirt, black tie, and black vest work out together? or is a bright color somewhere in the mix a must? It's for business.

Thank you.

No. The "classic" definition of formal or evening-wear would be a tuxedo. Black/midnight-blue w/ a white tuxedo shirt would do well.

I have a feeling when you say formal, you mean semi-formal or just "getting dressed up" for business. In that case, no. Please do not go with the Batman super-hero look. You will look ridiculous. I, and most other people on this forum, absolutely hate black dress shirts, its so tacky. If you need to dress for a business dinner or event, stick with a navy, charcoal, or black suit with a bright color (white, blue, etc.) shirt. The key is contrast. DO NOT WEAR ALL BLACK

What kind of business are you doing? The black on black thing would be ok if you worked in a night club but would look very very tacky anywhere else.

If you are looking for a more formal tie, then make sure it's a dark-ish color with a simple, small-scale pattern.

I wouldn't recommend wearing all black, unless the business you speak of is as a funeral director.

All joking aside, wearing nothing but black is much too severe for any business setting. Find yourself a nice grey or navy suit.

If this is a formalwear question, on the other hand, forget the black suit entirely and get a real tux.

Navy or gray (pick any gray) suit, white or (light!) blue shirt, Tasteful conservative tie- not black, but dark with a pattern. Think "mature adult" here, not "5 year old enamored with how many bright colors I can get to clash".

Start there. You can play around with that much more than you think you can. Once you've mastered that, move on to a wider variety of shirts and suits, adding patterns and textures.

Never, never, never go monochrome. Especially in a business setting.

False. Traditionally or classically, a tailcoat and white-tie is formal attire. A dinner jacket is semi-formal.
