Single vs. double-vent jackets? ...

Where in the sartorial hierarchy do single and double-vented jackets sit, relative to each other?

Been watching some old 1970s TV shows lately and surprised by how much more common double-vents seemed (at least in those shows) than today.

Thanks,
Chris

I am by no means an expert, but I seem to recall double vents being a traditional British styling, while single vents are more American . I prefer the double vents as they feel more comfortable to me, I can actually sit down in my jacket and be comfortable with them.

Run a search though, I'm sure there this has been covered before in a lot more detail.

Center vents are better if you commute by horse.

Double vents are much preferred as they allow you to put your hands in your pockets without splitting open the back of the jacket to reveal your rear end. Single vents are more common now as they are cheaper to make.

So I guess TF saved some money on my blazer as it is single vented. However, by BB blazer is double vented. BB>TF?

Wait, what?

Double Vented is actually better for that purpose.

I personally prefer the look of double-vented jackets. I feel like they have a more modern look and are less constricting.

I like the symmetry of double vents. Single looks lopsided to me, like a pair of pants with only one back pocket.

Also, as mentioned above, double looks better if you tend to put your hands in your jacket pockets.

No - I have an Attolini that's single-vented too....but it is less costly to produce a single-vented jacket. Doesn't mean that all double vented are better than single vented. It seems to me that suits on the lower end where they're really just trying to keep the price down are almost universally single vented.

No, genesis of center vents go back to equestrian origins. The vent allowed the the jacket to open and fall on both sides of the horse. Side vents, the back would just settle on the saddle. Pretty much all riding clothes have center vents.

Here in Texas, that's the only way we get around.

Just did a rather exhaustive search to see if Tony Romo has ever had a romantic spell with Sarah Jessica Parker. Alas, that would have been too perfect.

If you're talking about her face looking like a horse..... Either way... she's too ugly for Romo.
