Harrisons of Edinburgh Moonbeam Big Check...

I am considering wading out of my comfort zone into a big check sport coat. The pictured fabric nicely matches a pair of trousers I have been trying to match a sport coat to for more than two years but I have never had a big check jacket so am a little concerned that once made up the light-blue check may be too ostentatious/overbearing (for me) for the lack of a better term. My tailor said it is a classic jacket not an avant-garde monstrosity I should freak-out about...comments welcome...the picture is not the greatest but in reality the fabric is a darkish-grey with light-blue check...

What color/pattern are the pants you're trying to match?

Solid, very, very dark grey flannel; nice contrast between the trousers and the Moonbeam jacket fabric. When I said I was trying to match a jacket to the pants I meant trying to find a jacket to complement the pants in a contrast sense rather than a pattern sense, if that makes sense.

Solid dark grey should be pretty easy to match in both ways, you could go with a gun club check like this:

Or a salt & pepper tweed like this:

I can't find any pictures, but a light blue or wheat/camel tweed would look great too, I'm just not a fan of big checks, maybe a navy with a subtle windowpane, but that's it
