One of Most Underrated Designers on SF: Theory

When it comes to sweaters and sportshirts (as opposed to suiting, pants and dress shirts), Theory just fits extremely well, has an incredible silhouette and is typically much better made than its price point would suggest.  

 

I acknowledge that there are some synthetic fabrics that are less than ideal, and I stay away from those, but on the whole Theory puts out consistently good weekend wear.

Were Theory suits high quality at some point? I have a Theory SC from 2003 that's made in Italy.

I believe that a few years ago, Theory's tailored line was being made by Hickey Freeman. They have since reverted back to producing their own garments, and everything is now made in China and is of inferior quality. That being said, I agree with the sportswear comment - a great silhouette, and fairly priced for what you get.

"Meh" re suits or sportswear?   If you are taking about sportswear, what alternatives do you suggest in the same or even a bit higher price range?  Varvatos fits like crap, is way overpriced and generally is not constructed any better than Theory.

blue label or black label. May be more expensive, but its worth it.

Blue label (RL) is for women only, as far as I know.  I do like black and purple label, but you are talking at least triple the price.

I'm a huge Theory fan for their simple design and fits. The problem is that the quality of construction/fabric is questionable and the shirts/pants I've owned from them fall apart rather quickly. I do have to add I have a cotton suit from them that has stood up, but this was from when the line first started and I think their quality has gone down slightly.

"Blue Label" means "Polo" when discussing RL menswear.
