Wedding Attire Advice

Hi Everyone,

I'm getting married in June and am trying to figure out what I want to wear for my wedding.  I'll be having a later afternoon wedding ceremony (3pm ish) and a banquet later that evening at around 6pm.  I think I'm pretty set on wearing a 3 piece charcoal or dark grey suit for the ceremony at least.  I really would like a peak lapel, SB, 2 button however I cannot for the life of me find one for a reasonable (to me) price (under 1000).  If I were to go this route, I think I'd have to go online MTM or to one of the local MTM guys here in Los Angeles (mytailor or similar).  Does anyone know of any other place I might be able to find a suit like this OTR?  I could even possibly pair the suit with a light grey waistcoat if it doesn't come as a 3 piece, however I'm afraid the whole look might be too "rental" with the light grey waistcoat.  The other option is to settle for a notch lapel and go with Ehaberdasher or similar.  What do you guys think?

For pocket square I'm thining white linen and for a tie I'm not quite sure, I'd like to have some color in my outfit besides white and grey...maybe a glenn plaid with very light purple/violet or the like...I know many may not like this idea...but I would like SOME color.  Perhaps I could introduce this in socks instead?

For the banquet, I'm not sure if I'd like to wear the same suit or change into a tuxedo.  Tuxedo would be classic peak lapel, one button, with either 3 button waistcoat or cummerbund.  I'm not sure though if I can put this together within budget.  I was looking at the Baroni tuxedo however it does not come with a matching waist covering.  Any other ideas?

Anyways...those are my thoughts as of now.

Thanks

I like the idea of the 3-piece dark grey/charcoal peak lapel suit w/ the white linen pocket square. I wouldn't do colorful socks (too informal IMO), but I like the idea of the glen plaid with slight purple a lot. Probably would look great.

I would skip the tux change. You should look great still at your reception in the 3-piece.

Yeah, I definately like the tie idea better as well...I'll probably go that route, now if I could just find one like that!  Any ideas who producing a nice 3 piece peak lapel SB suit for a decent price?

The reasoning for me with the tux change is that my then wife will also be changing, multiple times at the banquet (as is chinese tradition).  I may skip it, however I thought it would be fitting if I changed into a tuxedo at nightime since she'll be changing as well.  Well, that and I'm figuring this may be one of the only times I'll get to wear one.

Where do you live? Are you in the NYC area? There's some good MTM places in the ballpark of $1000

you certainly have the correct idea in the lounge suit for the ceremony itself. I would suggest stick with that for the Wedding Breakfast: It will not look out of place, far from it and it avoid the complication of having to mess about and change.

Certainly some colour in tie and possible pocket square, sock quieter.

BTW if the suit is only a two piece, that is fine D NOT combine it with an odd waist coat, you are quite correct, it would sing rental.

Decent looking suit and looks like solid construction...what do people generally think about suitsupply suits?  I haven't heard much about them.  It's also too bad that it looks like they're both out of stock on 38R and they don't have a 3 piece in grey, only brown.

By wedding breakfast I think you mean evening "banquet"?  It would be much easier and cheaper to avoid the tux.  Will nix the odd waistcoat as I liked the idea of a proper 3 piece anyways.  Now to find a decent peak lapel 3 piece...I've been considering going to MyTailor and having Joe measure me himself since I'm local, but I'm just very afraid the first suit will have issues that can't be tailored out...and then I'm left with no money to buy another.

Thanks all for the advice to far!
