Need a new suit: What should I get?

I currently own two very nice suits but they are both grey (Level of Pal Zileri and Canali). I am in search of a Navy blue suit and am looking to spend around $1200-$1300. I wear a 38R and am looking for something on the more slim side. Would getting MTM make sense and if so is it doable at my price point or are their some OTR I should be looking at? Any help or assistance would be much appreciated.

I read recently that Savile Row bespoke tailor Thomas Mahon of the blog English Cut and former cutter for Anderson & Sheppard is now offering made to measure suits. If his MTM suits have the famous Anderson & Sheppard drape and high armholes, it would definitely be worth looking into. Perhaps a forum member has already tried his MTM and can add more information here.

I believe Steed (Edwin DeBoise), another A&S ex-pat, also offers a MTM service. Though since the OP quoted his budget in dollars I expect he is looking for somewhere in the US; flying to England may stretch his budget a bit.

Anywhere close to where tailors visit? Chan? NSM?

Steed makes regular US trips although I don't know if his MTM prices are within OP's price range. He is coming to NYC this week actually and will be back next march.

For the budget I would look around ebay, or take a trip to HK but still you probably need to pay a bit more for the fabric in line with your collection

Alternatively look at Graham Browne or Segun Adelaja, both of them are in London and make absolute great suits, but still the budget might be a bit tight

Appreciate all the help. Does anyone have any references or recommendations for the DC area or NYC? Thanks in advance.

Is there any reason you should do mtm or bespoke? Especially for a plain navy suit?

Not entirely sure. Kind of new to all of this so I'd really appreciate any input or details on what I should look for. Thanks.

I agree getting MTM is not entirely necessary - and for Navy its less necessary. There are several brands to choose from at your price point, Brooks Brothers or Ralph Lauren - maybe Paul Stuart depending on a sale.

Just got back from Japan trip so I'm still buzzing. This place I visited, 3 levels of of suits, mostly slim, some suits I've seen are full canvassed, Loro Piana fabric, buffalo horn/MOP buttons, working cuff button holes, pick stitching, lightly structured, natural shoulders - $300. $1300 can get you both suit AND a vacation. Then again they're not 'Made in Italy'.
