Friend excitedly tells me about "Jos A. Bank 3 for 1 sale". How do you respond?

I am sure many people here experienced some derivative of this conversation: Friends know you've gotten into clothing. Some fancy themselves as "good dressers" as well. So, occasionally, they try to inform you about sales/deals, but they are generally non-SF approved caliber. (Hugo Boss, J&M Arisocraft shoes, JosBank suits, etc)

How would you respond to this one?

I said it's better to have 1 well fitting suit, than 3 bad ones. But, this assumes all JB suits fit poorly. (I mentioned low armholes and obese America as an example). For this guy, I simply said he needs to buy something that matches his tall and lanky (slim) build, and mass market may not cut it. I also added that some perfectionists may think the suits themselves are inferior, but that most people wouldn't notice this. So, my main rebuttal was proper fit. Ironically, one can't even dismiss it as a "shitty brand", bc the masses view the above as a high status logo brand!

What would you say?

I just say that I'm waiting for the "buy the suit get the keys to the store" sale.

I would simply thank him for the information unless he is specifically asking for advice.

I would say thanks for the info. and I would then buy shoe trees, tie hangers and the wide-shouldered contoured cedar hangers. You can't beat any of those three for $8 a piece.

My hope was that the trousers would last the day ... at least until I could get back to my hotel. But, by the time I arrived at my hotel five hours later ... the trousers had two seams coming loose ... including one at the crotch.

Is this typical of JAB quality? Not that I'm tempted to try them again ... for any reason.

Guys, I think he was waiting for us to badmouth JAB, at which point he would point out that we're all living beyond our means by buying Zegna suits.

If not, then TIL Reev has friends.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but thanks Reev. I just ordered 3 cedar hangers. They look pretty nice and a little CVS cloth tape should take care of the logo. I'll have to practice writing Brioni in that fancy script though...

Seriously, guys, do want other guys to start dressing well? I don't. Tell him that sounds like a good deal and move on.
