Should I invite my boss over to my house?

I have a place in San Francisco with my girlfriend that we own. It is pretty nice and of course expensive. But over the years I saved up a lot of money in order to afford something like it. I did not come from a wealthy family nor did or do I have a trust fund but through some sleeve rolling and years been able to get it. Anyways, I was wondering if its a good idea to invite my boss or bosses over to my place? I know some discussions were placed that you don't want your bosses to get the assumption they are paying you too much. I certainly wouldn't want them to get that thought

especially if I want a raise. However, it would be nice to have a genuine relationship outside of work - which I think we do sometimes.

do you trust your boss? does he look out for you and usually have your back? tbh I would expect them to at least wonder how you could afford the place but it would be rare (and especially ******) for him to make a decision that impacts you financially because of jealousy over where you live.

on the other hand, the benefits of being close to your boss and having a personal friendship would far outweigh that risk. just get over it and invite him/them

OP, have you been to your boss' house yet? That should precede you inviting him over to yours.

No, I haven't been out to drinks with him. It's complicated so I have my supervisor then his supervisor who is like all of our bosses. I think he has my best interest at heart. The boss of our division I hang out with more. We've gone out to dinner/drinks, partying out late together.

^^^Given what you've stated, I wouldn't. Doesn't sound like you have established a social relationship. I wouldn't want one of my subs inviting me over to his or her house, and I also wouldn't invite my boss to my house unless it was a work related social event.

I had 85 employees and probably got invited to someones home 2-3 times a year. But I traveled and dined out with a lot of them regularly while at trade shows, etc.

If you want to develop a relationship with your boss, start with lunch with a few people, then drinks, and then take it from there, but don't force it. Have the boss over for dinner if you find you have true common interests or if you are having a group of people from the office.

Don't do it. As hard as you worked for and as much as you sacrificed, most people are still competitive when it comes to homesteads and you shouldn't have a colleague or superior over to your home unless you are certain he will find it very modest by his standards.
