Kafka's best film. Caught it on tv one night too not knowing what to expect at all (= ideal condition to watch that one I'd say), I don't care if it's a minor Scorsese it's one my favorite (tied with The Age of Innocence).

The remake doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned.

What you said, basically. Every week someone (we make a list) picks a movie to watch, we watch it, we talk about it.

cry.gif Sigh...It's been on my laptop a couple weeks now. I can't muster the courage. I've made inroads: a paused image here, a dialogue snippet there. I heard someone shout, Wolverines! , and I remembered the pride, and the anger, and the pain I'd felt as a child, watching C. Thomas Howell don that bandana and RPG that copter in the face of certain death, and I just ... couldn't. Not now. Not yet.

I'm glad to hear you guys liked After Hours so much, though. That's also one I've been avoiding, afraid it wouldn't hold up. I'll have to watch it again. biggrin.gif

Yes yes yes I would be so down. I too often start movies and don't finish them or just watch stupid things so this would be good

Great. Yeah, there are so many films/docs I want to watch but too often I just can't be bothered to pick one and I go for a tv show or smthg, it's just that bit extra motivation. I could do with a bit of diversity too so this should be great.

Ok, so far

Count me in. Been on a film kick lately. Watching Godard's Weekend tonight actually.

Likewise. On counting me in, not the film kick part.

Dropping in to say I am definitely down to join the movie club (unfortunately, due to no Netflix or other movie rental and/or streaming service in Nigeria, sourcing some more obscure movies could be a bit of a challenge if not on iTunes rental/random torrent sites/filestube).

It´s all about him in the "wretched" and dirty New York streets, the unusual characters he finds, one after the other, each with their misery or just plain (dull?) existance  in a city too big to shine. I´m not saying that´s the message, but I somehow got that from the film. I think what I most liked is thinking a peson, in a small way, could find himself in a situation like that, obviously not to those extremes, but cities like that at night (and my mind takes me to wondering around Buenos Aires at late hours) turn into a whole different thing.

Have you seen Night Watch? It's sort of similar, in that it documents one man's various travels and travails over the course of a night. Tonally, it's much less of a harrowing experience. Not as good as After Hours, but it's probably still worth watching.

How do we do this ? Dropbox shared folder makes sense, especially when it comes to hard to find/foreign stuff. That's how they do it on sufu and it seems to work ok.
