AE Shoe Damage: Should I return these, please help!

I ordered a pair of AE Daltons, and they arrived, and they looked gorgeous. However, today I noticed this by the welt. 277

Is this something to be worried about. I don't really care about how it looks, I'm just worried that this were actually impact the longevity of the shoe. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

First of all, congratulaions! Secondly, NICE photos addressing the concern!
It shouldn't affect the performance of the boot but you may want to email Allen Edmonds about it if you are unhappy.
Technically, their quality control should have spotted this and rejected these as firsts (in my opinion). It is a tad sloppy.
See what they will say about it and let us know!
If they were mine I would probably let it go if I got a deal on them. If retail was paid, I would email AE.

MoL, thanks for your response, and your response about the polish; I ordered the premium just a few minutes ago. They're the burnished walnut calf (although the walnut shell looks gorgeous).

I'm happy so long as they don't suffer in the long run. As long as I don't have to worry about wearing them for fear that they might fall apart, and that years down the line they'll still be good if I take care of them. I would just like to know whether this is the sort of thing that will put them into early retirement. Again, any advice is really appreciated.

Not to worry. They are going to last you a good long time (10+ years or until you tire of them).
Observe regular maintenance like applying leather conditioner once every 2-3 months and avoid bad weather where possible.
For extra protection you can take them to your cobbler and have him apply some TOPY rubber on the soles.
After a week of wear, you'll probably forget altogether about this concern.
SF members can make the worst customers sometimes because we can be overly picky at times.
Wear and enjoy your boots in good health. smile.gif
