What to wear with a Green/red bow tie

Alright, I purchased a red/ green striped bow tie for the holiday season. What color shirt and sweater would be best? Im not trying to look super dressy, just casual...with a bow tie. Thanks

I'm a fan of bow ties. I am also a fan of plaid sport coats, plaid pants, etc. In my opinion, the key is moderation. Meaning, you don't wear a bow tie with a plaid sport coat and saddle shoes. Then you just look like a clown.

So, to answer your question. I would say stick to a white shirt and a solid sweater - grey or maybe blue.

Thanks for the responses! I was thinking just a white shirt and a grey sweater, as the bow tie will be kind of loud.
