Meermin Mallorca Shoes - Page 598

I received a pair of Loake Rothschild in size 13 today. They are on the Duke last in a UK E width, which is supposed to be a narrow fit. Unfortunately, they're too wide for me; the laces close all the way before being at all snug on my foot.

The Meermins in 13 New Rey are much more snug, even though the laces close all the way (which also happens in a 12.5). If they stretch much, I should be able to correct any issues with tongue pads. Plus they're hand welted instead of Goodyear welted. I'll be holding onto the 13 Meermins.

I'm very impressed with the shoes! I have been searching for ages for a black captoe oxford that would fit me. FWIW, I measure 13.5C left foot and 13C right foot on a Brannock device. I can squeeze into a 13C on the Allen Edmonds on the 1 and 8 lasts, but they're not very comfortable. Now if only Meermin made a black plain toe blucher that I could wear in uniform...

Style 10172 is the captoe oxford without any stitching on the cap in a New Rey last. (There's nothing wrong with no stitching, right?) I'm leaning towards keeping the size 13 shoes; there is a little more rubbing with my left foot's little toes in the size 12.5 that might be uncomfortable after wearing them all day, but otherwise the 12.5s also fit alright. The right shoe in size 13 isn't excessively big on me. It still creases in the correct area and there's no heel gapping. I previously had a pair of Meermins in the Hiro last in size 12. I ordered a 12.5 and the wrong size was sent to me. Even so, the 12 Hiro was too wide for my feet.

It's great to finally find a pair of shoes that fits me well. I also have a pair of Loake Rothschild on the way in size 13 in case they end up fitting better, but if they're comparable in fit, I will probably keep the Meermins. I have a hard time believing the Loakes will match the quality of the Meermins, and they were about the same price.

I think it might just be something I have to live with when I'm wearing oxfords. I find it hard to believe I'll find something substantially better fitting in my size.

Apart from the navy museum austerity, just wonder if anyone is interested in a plum/golden/brown museum austerity brogue?

What last are you all considering for this museum calf austerity brogue?

I would be interested in joining for a golden/brown museum austerity brogue. If the last is appealing of course.

An adelaide in st james II-style is also on my shortlist.

I'm thinking of olfe/new rey? Any thoughts?

Off the top of my head I'd say austerity brogue in the New Rey is a no go. Would need to see one to believe it actually works. Works very well in the Olfe though (I have a pair). Think I'll Google if someone has pulled this off in the New Rey...

My original plan was to have it done up in the new chisel toe last. I'm going to set up a referral in my sig so people and check it out and sign on.

My interest was tentative as though I am intrigued by the choice of leather, and like the style of shoe, I am unsure as to this new last. Looks awfully narrow.

A plum or gbrown on the olfe would be more to my liking.

Hi, what size US are you? so what do you recommend the true size of the meermins are?

Do you suggest that we size .5 up or down?

thank you very much!

Here are some photos of an austerity by SkoAB. Made in Carmina Simpson. This gives some idea what it will look like. I think this is fine but definitely more dressier than when in the Olfe.

I think for maximal versatility I would go with suede. The museum calf is awesome but I think buying them would be more of a decision to buy porn looking shoes as opposed to buying suede would be buying shoes I can wear with pretty much everyting except my black tie suit.

Struggling to understand the "porn" reference.  I can't say the term ever enters my head when I strap on my Vass museum gold.

Heh yeah was the only word I could come up with trying to picture A-class "shoe porn" looking shoes. I think one should have these in both museum calf and suede if wife, money and shoe rack permit.
