The shoes from KW look to be more on a par looks wise with Linea Maestro but is that worth double the price? Don't own any classic line Meermin so can't speak personally to construction/wait time. How quickly do you want them?

Not really in any big hurry for them per se. Are you referring to the New Rey last in the LM line (http://meermin.es/ficha_articulo.php?id=1982)? I was thinking the shape of the KWs might be somewhere in between the Ama and New Rey. Maybe even Olfie. From some pictures the New Rey looks incredibly pointy/narrow, but that could just be the camera angles. As you said, the price is also about double for the Linea Maestro, but I also don't want to get something I won't like and then not wear anyway. If only I could see them in person before buying...

I just placed an order for these: http://meermin.es/ficha_articulo.php?id=1920 in hopes of getting a similar shape to these offered from Kent Wang: http://www.kentwang.com/shoes/benchgrade-plaintoe-balmoral.html. After looking at more pictures in this thread, I worried I'll be disappointed. Any opinions?

edit: The meermin site seems to be down at the time of the post. The link above is for the black wholecuts in Ama last.

I own a Meermin captoe blucher on the Ama last as well as KW brown captoes (which looks to me to be on the same last as the plaintoe balmorals you mentioned liking). The two shoes look nothing alike in shape. That doesn't sound like what you were hoping to hear. I like both of the shoes very much, but if I were choosing between the two you mentioned, then I'd pick the KWs because of how I'd wear them (in a "dressier" situation) - they are much sleeker.

Ok Gentleman, an update to all the participants of the MTO. Meermin has made samples of the MTO shoe (since the museum calf is a special order). Bear in mind that these are just samples and the leather used in the pictures below are not the actual leathers for the MTO.

The picture below shoes the samples in the Hiro and Olfe last.

Pepe has informed me that he has made 2 slight changes to the samples above:

1) He will be adding a bit more 'curve' (as illustrated in the picture below) in the stitching of the eyelet tabs. The stitching will be made closer to the hole; and
2) They will reduce the size of the holes in the brogueing on the toe cap by 0.5mm

As you all can see, there is a lot of effort put in by Meermin to get this order right since it is a special order. I have reminded Pepe of our request for pictures for the museum calf and he will be sending it very soon (he is a very busy man).

He also informed me that they will start the clicking process for the museum calf very soon.

Great! More curve at the eyelet tabs is good. Unfortunately the eyelet spacing is still parallel lines and not refined. :(

Would they be able to stitch one side of the tongue to the eyelet tab, similar to JL and EG?

I will highlight this to Pepe; thankfully these are just samples.

i'll also try to ask them regarding the stiching of the tongue to the eyelet.

JL 1999. Note the lacing width between both sides are wider in the front and narrower in the middle and flare out slightly at the back.

Meermin has uniform spacing forming two parallel lines which makes them stood out as unnatural.

Gentleman, Any suggestions for a type of design for hatchgrain calf?I was thinking of a split toe like the EG Dover but a chukka or a wholecut like G&G will also be fantastic. Would be interested to get some feedback from you guys

I thought this was your personal MTO project, but great to see another group MTO come to life! I'm in for anything balmoral, wholecut or not. Can we pls do this with a chiseled toe, similar to TG73? I assume New Ray is the closet last Meermin has for that.

Thanks for the info. That's very helpful. The Ama last appears somewhat sleeker in the Meermin last lineup picture than in any pictures from people here. Maybe it's something to do with the overall width... I do want to try Meermin at some point. Maybe something more like the Olfie last which looks pretty nice in some of the pictures I've seen posted.

This is great chogall; will send your explanation and the picture to Pepe to ask him to incorporate into the MTO shoe. Thanks!

I'm very much in favour of something TG73 like, but New Rey is not the answer. New Rey is much pointier. From their last overview (http://meermin.tumblr.com/image/20983395357), the Ben last looked closest to TG73, but I have not seen it in the flesh.

I think a combination of the Olfe and Ben last will result in something similiar to the TG73.

Looks my shoes are arriving tomorrow. I will hopefully get pictures from my father as they are being shipped to him, but he is coming for a visit next weekend and you'll have better pictures then.

Those samples look kinda pointy - though I'm not sure if it's just the angle. I'd personally have preferred something more rounded, but I think it looks great nevertheless.
