Tried to shop the austerity boots in dark brown, to see how they would look. It didn't turn out well, but for the people who'd like an indication:

Hello, This is a follow up to my previous post regarding the UPS total fees of $131.13. I tracked down the number you need to get this info. The regular customer line will not do, you need to contact their supply chain mgmt line, since they handle all the import deliveries. Their number is (866) 493-7140 option 2. Anyways, the break down is that $124.13 was import duties and $7 dispersement fee, whatever that means. I asked why so high, and she said that it was based on the declared value of the shoes ($331). She noted that shoes and clothes are hit with high import fees. This means that the fee was 38% of the declared value! OK, so I am puzzled as to why others in the US have gotten hit with much lower fees, including people who have ordered MTO, which you would think also has high declared value. Any ideas? I am posting this just to warn others that you *may* be hit with a high import fee. Are there anyways to avoid these fees? I am a participant in the hatchgrain MTO, but might have to reconsider. Thanks!

I just put in random numbers and got ~$30, which is relatively to the $42 I paid.

No idea how the hell you had +$100. I don't even think they can charge up to 38% on anything?!

Sucks so bad man.

Okay i'm ready to pull the trigger on the Classic line black ca-toe Oxfords.

Just need the right size. I'm a 8.5D TTS in Allen Edmonds 5 last (Park Aves)
Any help gents?

I think UPS made an error here.  Here's what I would do:  First, I would find something in writing from the U.S. government that states what the % is for customs duties.  Then, call UPS again with this information and point out that they made a mistake.  If necessary, ask for their manager and keep working your way upwards until  you get someone who knows what they are talking about.  It just seems a little strange that only one person would be hit with such an exorbitant fee and that the fee would be 38% of the purchase.

Hey guys,

I'm a young novice gent just beginning to build my wardrobe with quality purchases (much in part thanks to this forum).  I'm considering buying two Meermins:

The black calf oxford - http://meermin.es/ficha_articulo.php?id=1920

&

The light brown calf monk - http://meermin.es/ficha_articulo.php?id=1950

Two questions: what sort of pants will go best with the light brown monks? I realize the black calf oxford should be quite versatile as it is a rather simple shoe. I find the light brown calf monk to be beautiful, but worry that I won't be able to wear it with jeans.

Secondly, as for sizing - in the US I am a 10 E.  The AE Park Avenues in this size seem to fit well (they were my first REAL shoe purchase made two months ago) but are just a little tight in the toe box and have taken a while to fully break in.  The black calf oxford is the Ama last (E+) and the light brown calf monk is the Hiro last (E).  Luisa from Meermin suggested that I choose a 9.5 UK size.  Do you think I will run into sizing issues?

Many thanks

I won´t advise you on sizing, but I doubt you will get better advice than from Luisa herself. If you don´t own a classic brown oxford, i would think again before buying the light brown monks. They are pretty hard to pair with anything formal - apart from maybe a light grey suit...Even with jeans, they are going to be the first thing people notice...
