Finally received my order on Friday, September 7. Ordered a pair of black calf captoes in 9Uk from the classic line (101273) on July 13.

The shoes appear to be quite well made although as others have pointed out the leather is incredibly stiff. The unsewn part of the upper that covers the top of the foot is a bit more pronounced than I expected from the webstore photos.

That's actually kinda surprising. I'm planning on ordering a pair of Classics here to Canada..will I have these customs issues as well?

I had no issues with customs but the total cost on shoes from Meermin really adds-up. I got a call from FedEx notifying me that a delivery was imminent and that there was a charge to pay.

Here's what I paid in Canadian dollars after conversion:

Classic black calf captoes, shoe trees and shipping: $243.99
FedEx brokerage, taxes and duties: $67.39
Total: $ 311.38

Taking into account it took 7 weeks I'm not sold that it was worth it.

I just recieved these from Meermin. I really like how they look, and though they might be a tad too narrow at the moment I hope that they will stretch a little bit. Though I am unsure of the amount of space that forms between the two pieces of leather that holds the shoe strings. Can a bigger size fix this, or do I simply have too high of an arch on my feet?

Funny, I was going to ask the same question. See my photo below.

Are our feet too wide for the last this shoe is built on?

Holy.... Not going to lie, when you break it down like that.. it really turns me off. I mean of course they are gorgeous shoes. However when I see AE's on sale and even the fifth street boots I was looking at for $280 it seems much more logistical to purchase AE's closer to home.

Those shoes actually look too small.

That is my concern as well. The "problem" is just that the fit got perfect around the feet after I had had them on and walked around for about an hour. So they feel perfect when worn, but they do look too small...

The lacings should close - ie both sides of the facing should come together.

If the shoes are long enough you need a wider width as a place to start. Although even that may not allow the lacings to completely close.

I would guess you should size up 1/2 size and do a wider width.

Although even this is not guarantee.

Perhaps this last is the not best for your feet?

You can, of course, still wear them as is.

Does it hurt? Are your toes getting squeezed?

If not, then the problem is not width of the shoes but the girth of instep. Size up width will help. Do not size up in length/size.

^^ As you continue to wear them, the leather will stretch a bit and the lacing will get a little tighter. Sizing up does increase the width of the shoe, but it might end up being too long if the length is right. A different last might help, too.
