Meermin Mallorca Shoes - Page 195

I own a pair of Meermin double Monks and they are awesome. So awesome I intended to slowly build my collection with nothing but Meermin, but it takes so long to receive a pair I am thinking of buying Ferragamo or Testoni instead (at steep discount). How do you think the quality of these brands compare to Meermin? Should I spend $300 on Ferragamo / Testoni I can take home today or ~$200 on Mermins that will take forever?

Saw some double monk chukka boots in H&M the other day - I now fear they may have officially jumped the shark. Still love my Meermin ones though.

I can't vouch for Ferragmo or Testoni but I've seen some unfavourable reviews of the latter in particular - Since waiting for Meermins is an inevitability why not just go for their MTO? You'll wait a similar time as for some of their classic line and you'll get a pair that are well priced, of quality you know is good and a fit that you're familiar with.

Hi all, long time lurker.  Firstly, thank you for compiling such an incredible knowledge base on Meermin, I hope to add to it very shortly.

I've got in contact with Luisa in relation to ordering two pairs; one black oxford/blucher without broguing, and a slightly less formal dark brown with cap toe and broguing.  I've got a EE/EEE 11.5UK width foot, depending on the manufacturer; has anybody else in this situation ordered from Meermin (and more specifically, the Ama or Rui lasts)?  If so, have you found the results true to size?

Two tips:

1.  If you order a ready to wear that is in stock, the wait time is minimal. I just ordered a pair of cordovan longwings on Wednesday night, and they shipped today.  Ask before you pay if the shoe is in stock.

2.  Assume you will get hit with the customs charge and include it in your calculations on cost.  I'm assuming I will get hit with roughly $50 in brokerage/customs charges and think it's still a good deal.

Interested in this as well. I've been basically stuck on Allen Edmonds as they are one of the few producers who sell wide sizes in most of their styles--would love to be able to try something new if it looks like it will fit.

Will Meermin make wide sizes of existing lasts? Or are we limited to just picking a wider-fitting last in a normal width?

I think there's an increased upcharge in additional to the MTO upcharge if you're changing the last.

Thanks. Do they have wide sizes of the lasts? Or just normal width, and one would pick a last that just naturally fits wider?

Eh? While I did see the unveiling of the first one, I must have missed the following "group buy" invite. Darn it, I might very well have jumped in.

My first pair of quality shoes. :D

Black wholecuts from the classic line with shoe trees.
Unfortunately I got hit by customs (100$), although these shoes are still far above anything found in Ottawa within this price range.

(Shipped on the 20th & just arrived an hour ago.)

I can't wait to break these in!

Am I the only one that doesn't like the "austerity brogue"?

Has anyone seen any comparisons of the dark brown calf double monks to Andrew Lock double monks? It seems like after shipping, taxes, Meermin comes out a bit more expensive plus the waiting game. I think Andrew's double monks might be sold out in 10.5 right now so maybe it evens the playing field on shipping time? What's the quality and looks comparison?
