I hope they will keep the MTO possibility open. It's nice to find a shoemaker who will mix and match for you on a reasonable schedule, and at these prices too.

Will wait and see what the Web store brings.

Love the webpage with the lasts, especially the Ama last.  For the Carmina experts out there, which of the available lasts most closely resembes the Simpson last?

Good job! When I placed my order, the element I actually had the hardest time choosing was lining color. smile.gif

NAMOR -- just curious... since you're the king of shell, have you had much experience with shell from Argentina? Some folks on the shoe damage/porn thread gave me a hard time when I mentioned my forthcoming shell shoes from Meermin.

green is my favorite color so it was a no brainer. But I was tormented deciding between dark brown and burgundy. To help me decide, I created a table that broke down all my shoes into 4 colors. I realized that for every burgundy shoe, I had 4 brown pairs. Made my decision much easier.

I've never handled Argentinian shell but ive also never heard any negative information. From the pics, the shell looks rich and supple so im not worried at all. Before this experience, I had actually never heard of Argentinian shell so I was worried whether or not it came from the horse's backside. Ron Rider once posted a story of how some italian tanneries where tanning calf to look like cordovan and they they did a great job. So good a job that it almost fooled Ron. Pepe has stated that this is in fact shell cordovan and Pepe's word is good enough for me. Ill know for sure in 12-14 weeks

Also interested to see how cordovan creases on the Jodhpur

Could you please elaborate on this? I have been confused as to how exactly the welt and inseam is stitched at Meermin. Is it actually hand-welted and sewn, with a carved feather and no gemming, or gemmed with the stitching either by hand or hand-guided Goodyear machine-stitched?

Pepe's English is great, as is the information in his e-mails and the answers to my questions.

looking forward to seeing these

If you don't mind me asking, what will the price of this end up being? I'm starting to get an itch for something like this as I love Jodhpur boots. I guess I have time to save up, seeing how to MTO is closed down for the time of being.

there is a video of them doing real handwelting as you describe - with a carved feather and no gemming.

This is done on the Linea Maestro or custom shoes, not the RTW line, no?

I think it was just a nice way to say 'Stop bothering me with constant emails for one RTW pair of shoes at a time'. That's not what the owner of a company needs to be doing.

MTO has to be done on a direct communication basis.

Just guessing, of course.

I need some help sizing the New Rey last. From what Ive read in this thread, the general consensus seems to be size down one from your US size. For me that would mean 11UK, US12D. Is this correct? I ask because when Pepe provided measurements for a size 10.5UK and an 11UK both looked smaller than expected:

10.5UK

Length: 320mm
Width: 110mm

11UK

Length: 324mm
Width: 111mm

I typically wear a size 12 shoes and most of my dress shoes (flat welt) measure 330ish x 115mm = 13" x 4.5"

Am i missing something here or am I going to have to size up to a 11.5UK instead of a 11UK?
