Meermin Mallorca Shoes - Page 1001

I have the same boots in UK10.5 worn about 10 times. I don't have a problem walking with the stiff soles. My problem is with the stiff leather. These boots kill my outer ankles. Padding doesn't help. Plan to sell them soon.

Sharing my experience with Meermin, sizing and fit wise.

Extensively perused the forum before I ordered my Hiro double monks. I wear an 8US and based on forum discussions, I came to the conclusion that a half size down would be the way to go for the Hiro last since its apparenly narrower. Went ahead and ordered the double monks in chestnut calf 7.5UK. Initially I found them a bit roomy, particularly the heel and a bit on the tongue and straps (roomy with all buckles on the last hole). Quality wise, everything was great. After further testing it out, I realized that the width of my foot fit perfect. Its like the front half of the shoe was just right but the back end was a bit loose, not quite sure if a 7UK would fit all throughout better or squish the front of my toes haha even the length seemed good since i could barely fit a finger behind my heel. Tho the biggest problem was still the heel slip, I opted to stick a tongue pad and everything felt a lot better and snug but still a heel slip. The soles tho are VERY stiff and ive only wore them twice so im really hoping the heel slip disappears after they completely break in. It almost feels like if there was a 7.25UK then that wouldve been perfect haha

Ordered a long with blucher in the RUI last on 7UK (again after extensively researching in the forums of this last compared to Hiro). Hope this one wont need a tongue pad.

Anyone else with this experience? Im trying to convince myself that 7.5UK was the right thing to order haha I live in the Philippines so I dont come by getting a pair of Meermins so easily haha

Cheers!

I tried hiro once on a shell MTO, I took same size as olfe, U.K. 7. I had a lot of heal slip and it was not getting better, so I quickly sold. Maybe it's me but the width of hiro and the heel cup felt more forgiving than olfe. I would only ever buy olfe last as it fits me very well.

Hey @josef1, nice to see another guy from PH on SF - although I haven't been in PH for a while now. I've got the same size as you (US8) in most of my shoes, and am pretty much a standard UK7 in all my Meermins (Hiro cap toes, Rui LWBs, and Elton single monks).

TBH, the Hiro probably isn't as narrow as you think (esp compared to New Rey), but yes there's a teeny bit of heel slippage towards the back even on my UK7s. Not enough to be a huge annoyance, but it is what it is. It might also just be that double monks tend to be more forgiving on the fit compared to fully laced up shoes, thus making it feel slightly roomier.

But I'd say that if your feet aren't particularly wide/long for a US8, a UK7 might actually be pretty spot on for you if you ever get a shot to pick up another pair in Hiro, Elton... maybe even Olfe? I wouldn't worry about your LWBs on the Rui though, they'd probably fit comfortably. ;)

Cheers!

Kababayan! Haha thanks for that input, did the heel slip eventually go away tho or at least get better? I'm actually sure that the 7UK would've been better, albeit maybe a bit tight on my bunions haha just telling myself that 7.5UK is correct for me since I have no plans on returning it or selling it since I only get my hands on meermin if a friend travels to spain. Will wait for break in then stick on a heel grip if it still persists. smile.gif

Olfe is awesome, meermin need to dial back Elton and his demented cousin hiro and crank up the olfes.

@josef1 It actually did get better after a couple of wears. The soles do soften up significantly as well, so I wouldn't worry too much. Worst case, you can go for the heel grip + tongue pad, but fingers crossed that you won't need to!

Similar experience here. I took UK 7.5 (I wear same size for Carmina Rain) for one of their shell MTO on HIRO. IMO Hiro is just a fat last around the heel and I got quite a bit of annoying heel slippage. Luckily for me they do get a bit better with wear.

Strange though because I wore UK 8 comfortably for their balmoral boots on that last. For the future I'll just steer clear of hiro. Sadly, many of their offerings are in hiro.

Maybe the style? Was it double monks that you had on the 7.5UK? Discussions suggest it to be roomier on the back end due to the nature of the buckles vs lacing

Nope, it's the wingtip oxford.

Hi all, appreciate your advice.

Am currently on Size 9 Hiro last, the shoe fits ok, but my little toe rubs against the shoe. Can probably do with a little bit more room in the toe. Also, as per picture, the laces form a V instead of being closed together.

Am getting another shoe in Elton last. Should I stay at UK9 or size up to UK9.5 for Elton last? Measurements from meermin suggests the Elton is longer at the same size, but it appears to fit narrower.

Thanks!

That Hiro last seems not to fit at all.  Too tight in the ball and in the instep.  I understand they won´t stretch enought.  Sorry can not help you with the Elton last.

I want to try a pair of Meermin shoes, but ever since you adopted two-tiered pricing (one for Americans and one for Europeans) I've held off on doing so. Will be happy to take the plunge if you bring back price parity.

Thanks.

The V shape wouldn't really bother me too much as typically the shoes may stretch out and it may just be that you have a rather high instep... I'm more concerned that it looks like the width of the Hiro last in that size is way too tight for you. Maybe sizing up 0.5 would help with that, but I'm not really too sure.

If you're getting a pair in Elton, you should probably size up 0.5 to allow for your wide feet. For me Elton and Hiro feel roughly the same in width tbh, the only issue for you there may be the length as Elton is typically longer than the Hiro in the same size because of the elongated toe. If that's the case, you may have to just accept that Meermins aren't a good fit for you unless you can snag some of their GMTOs in a wider last/wider version of the Hiro.
