This is the most interesting part:

"This is partly because Meermin has a segment of its production in Shanghai. While some people wrongly characterize all Chinese production as being low quality, the fact is that some factories there have considerably improved. Though luxury-end production still remains nascent, mid-tier production such as this can be fairly decent."

I think that helps explain the price point. Based on the pictures and comments I've seen on this thread, I don't think it would put me off, given the price.

I had the chance to speak with somebody very connected with the Carmina/Meermin bunch this evening. I asked him what he knew with regards to the connection. By request, I am leaving his name and position off the record.

He provided the following info, though:
As stated, Carmina and Meermin are strictly tied along familial lines. There is no working relationship between the two. Carmina’s lines are obviously fully produced in Spain, etc. Meermin’s shoes are manufactured in China and “finished” in Spain. The shell cordovan used is not Horween, but comes from an Argentinian shell producer. The quality of the Meermin’s are good, but labor process and the materials used are not to the same level as Carmina.

I contacted them today for the monks, 25 days to delivery!

I put in a somewhat specific MTO request - will see what their reply is and if they're willing to take it on and at what price. Excited.

do they mark down package value for customs purposes if we ask?

thanks
You can ask but I wouldn't rely on since it's illegal.

Just got a picture of the chukkas in mid-brown. Payment was sent about 30 seconds after seeing the photo.

Can anyone advise if the dark brown nantes grain monks are as dark as they look online?
If anyone has a picture of theirs, it would be greatly appreciated
post #1420 of 11068
No, these are the "cuero", mid-light-brown. If you look at the picture you can see that they don't have a grainy leather.

Does look great Christian!

Is this a RTW shoe, i.e. is it availble for orders in various sizes?
Standard configuration except for the leather (rubber sole, classic construction)?
This is a RTW shoes but not listed on their site, if you send them an e-mail about it they can get it for you. If I were to make this an MTO I would use light-brown shell on the Ama last. drool.gif

Very handsome boots, congrats on getting them! Do they come with a leather or rubber/faux danite sole?

(Looks very much like a danite sole from the photo).

The photo is a tiny bit dark, but this should be the same calf cureo color as the longwing is availible in (confirmed in a mail from Sandro this morning):

Other then the chukka Christian bought and the longwing above, this captoe oxford is also availible in cuero calf:

Thanks. Sandro, one of the Meermin guys, informed me that it should be identical to the boots on their site, so I'm hoping they have rubber soles.
