Well, I don't own AE, but have tried them and in general they have larger toebox than Hiro. I have doublemonks in hiro 7UK, but I still find the toebox tight, but the heel loose.

Same here. I've several Allen Edmonds and toebox for my foot is really comfortable. The Meermin Oxford in Hiro last is very tight, I just would like to check their new G fit ...

Yeah, the problem is with a last that is tight in the ball only, going up in width tends to make the heel loose.  The fact is that not every last will work for you.  Some you just have to let go.
