Perhaps unsurprisingly (due to the price point) the finishing on the shoes is noticeably worse compared to Alden, Carmina or Herring. One of my shoes had a small tear in the edge of the sole; the other shoe had a bit of white thread sticking out of the welt. See attached photos.d842ab3ce629322ac3980c26425cef0e.jpg
This is evidence of a failed inseam. What shoemakers call "grinning" Could be loose stitching, could be damaged stitching.

Common consensus seems to be that for the most people Rain fit is the same as Hiro.

+1 for some pics!

Hi everybody!

First, I hope everything goes well for you and your family, then I need your advice.

Some times ago, I wanted to buy a pair of Meermin double-monks (Hiro) and with the size of my feet Meermin sizing chart recommended me a 7.5UK. I hesitated to choose this size because I usually wear a 8.5UK (Crockett&Jones) a 9UK (Shipton&Heneage) and 9.5UK (Sebago). So, I contacted Meermin for advice and Luisa recommended me a 8.5 UK. It was in accordance with what I usually wear, so I ordered it. Unfortunately the shoes was too narrow, to such a point that I couldn't close the first shoe-buckle (which is closest to the tip of the shoes). I sent back the shoes and the postage cost was very expensive. Last week, I decided to order again and I sent to Meermin a new email with more detail about my feet measurements. Finally, they recommended me a 9.5UK, unfortunately I hesitate because I’m puzzled. Indeed, with the same size of my feet, Meermin gave me three different sizes of shoes: 7.5 - 8.5 and 9.5... The last one is it the right size? I don't know and if it's not, I'm going to be obliged to send back again this shoes and paid again high postal charges. I don't want!

So, I give you my feet measurements and if one of you has the same, can he tell me which size he wears?

My feet : Length: 27,5 cm (10.82 inches) / Width: 105 cm (4.13 inches)

Thank you very much!

Best regards.

JMC

Bonjour JMC!

You'll find the explanation for the difficulties you currently encounter when clicking on the 'Sizing' tab on any page of Meermin's website for Double Monks on the HIRO last:

When looking at your foot length only, you should be fine with a UK 8 or 8.5 - yet the width for these sizes is only 100 / 101 mm, so not enough for you. HIRO is built a bit narrow in the front, so this is not a last I would recommend to you. Same is true for OLFE and PARK lasts which are comparable, so Meermin Double Monks and Loafers probably aren't for you - with one exception: the Dark Brown Rapello Suede Single Monk is made on the AMA last that runs a bit wider and more roomy (I don't think the 'Sizing' details are correct on the website, that should be more).

If you would want to consider Oxfords or Bluchers, the AMA and RUI lasts could be for you, there are some nice Suede Wholecuts available, as well as Full Brogue Derbies . Since these two lasts are on the wider side, they should fit you better.

Good luck!

Robert

I just wanted to let you know that 105mm is an standard width and WILL fit olfe and hiro fine.

When sizing width you have more leeway than with length.

If it helps have a 105mm with foot and wear and 7.5uk on one foot and 8.0uk on the other in olfe. (My lengths are different )

I would also suggest OLFE over hiro as it has more leeway in the toebox area.

Well, finally received my first pair of Meermins this morning. Waited over a month, so I asked if they could ship one of the pairs first, so I paid for it and they did. It fits well on the Hiro.

But there's a scuff right on the right of the toe. Is it worth asking for a return? It's a bit obvious up front. Or is there anything I could do about it?

And does anybody have a Hiro vs Rui comparison including a bird's eye view shot?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Have you got a suede brush?  Going over it might help, apart from that if you aren't happy with it contact meermin and see what they say, although I think id live with it as opposed to sending it back, given how long it may take.

As to hiro to rui comparison theres an image here comparing the lasts that may help':  http://www.styleforum.net/t/277707/meermin-mallorca-shoes/3105#post_5882826

Glad I went looking for this as reading the recent posts saying the rui was tts or fits wide had me thinking to myself no it doesn't, wtf are they on about...turns out I was thinking of new rey >.<

If could help, my feet are around 27-27.2 cm / 10.5-10.8 cm

And Ron Last in size UK 8 fit me perfectly,

I wear size UK 8 in C&J and US 9 W in sebago docksides

You could try a UK 9, but probably you need a UK 8,5 in a wider fit

That scuff looks extremely minor, especially for suede. I would grab a suede brush and see if it comes out.

Have a crepe brush, but unfortunately it isn't making any difference at all. Don't have a brass brush to try.

Thanks for that chart, I have it but have forgotten about it. Am thinking about a pair of boots and am trying to convince myself that the Rui last looks good enough.

I'm looking at getting the Meermin loafer as well.

Re sizing, what can you share on the fit for your loafer?

width: Is it snug r still roomy? Am asking as I was given the Ron last measurement. And it would appear that your foot would have been way too snug for the uk8 size for the Ron last (10.5cm vs 96mm below). Not sure if I'm missing something here.

Cheers,

RON

I usually wear size UK 8 E/F in almost all english brands and lasts, and only sometimes UK 8,5 (all Sanders lasts, Loake Last 26, Cheaney 12508)

I went with Uk 8 in Ron last for my first meermin (consider that many customers recommend half a size smaller than Hiro Last) and it fits very well both in lenght and width, more on the roomy side than snug side.

In my opinion Ron last isn't absolutely a narrow last, I consider it a true UK F width.

The C&J 314E and 72Ex loafer lasts are definitely narrower and shorter

Unfortunately I never tried Hiro Last so I can't compare it.

PS
I suggest you to completely ignore this kind of measuments charts, they are pretty unreliable in my experience.

A foot of 26,5 cm could fit in a Uk 8 only with three pair of socks happy.gif

What a fast reply...thanks. Thou I must say it is interesting how your feet s quite a bit wider than the last width and you still found it roomy. I'm really starting to question my choice of a uk 7.5 for the loafer. My foot measurement is 96mm width and 267 length. Ordered a uk7.5 based on meermin's recommendation.

Relatedly, Do anyone here know what are the width and length measurements on Meermin product website that of? Those seems to be wider than the last width.
Not quite sure how I should be using the info on the website.

Interested to hear more of this from others as well, about taking a half size smaller than the Hiro for the loafers. Because Meermin seems to tell you take the same size. I have zero experience with loafers, but am very keen to try out the navy suede ones.
