Pros and cons on the york sole? I've got no experience in it but was thinking of an MTO out of the below with 2 lacebars and york or rubber sole, snuff suede.

Today I wrote again to Sandro,

as I told him I don't mind waiting from 3rd of january IF I know how long I'm going to wait, I've been told 3 times in the past 3 weeks my shoes would have been shipped, none of the times that was true.

Now, if you tell me : "look we are in a messy situation, please accept my apologies but it's going to take other 3\4\5 weeks", I've no problems...I mean I have other shoes is not that I can't live without them, but if you tell me "I'll ship them to you in 3 days" and than you don't tell me anythign I think I kind of have the right to be bit nervous about it, expecially when you got my money the 1th of february!

I believe many of you guys are in the same situation , just wanted to share my frustration about it!

Yeah with Meermin you have to wait and just have the mindset to deal with these kinds of uncertainties. They offer exellent customer service and service per se considering them being a Spanish company with a Spanish way of doing business. The mindset needs to be the same as with AS: the shoes arrive when they are ready. If one is in a rush, shop for RTW C&J, Trickers, AE or Alden.

Well I'm Italian and probably that's why I have a hard time with "spanish" or "italian" way of doing busines, being rased in a "german" way it simply pisses me off :-) I don't really mind the waiting, I mind the misleading of "the shoes are ready next week" and not getting a mail the next week with written "sorry we are late"... anyhow... let's hope they arrive soon

I feel your pain. Just hang in there! It will be worth the wait especially if it is an MTO you are waiting for.

Also, sorry for asking this as i know its probably been asked a million times before but the search function is useless. How do they fit? Im size 8.5uk.

At least you've been getting replies. I placed my order over a month ago and I've yet to hear anything back from them, despite emailing to add shoe trees and inquire on the status of my order. I'll be cancelling, and it's a shame because their double monks look incredible for the price.

I'd wear with a suit because I think plain oxfords are most of the times dull. Go for it but make sure the suit fits well. Otherwise what you have on fill look like an epic failure (trying to pair flashy double monks with a suit that is of a bad fit = making a clown out of yourself).

For me the Hiro last fits quite the same most British shoes. US 14 on almost all Allen Admonds and would be a UK 13 in the Hiro if the last wasn't too wide.

My double monks, and my fathers single monks shipped and are on the way to me.

i got a reply now , as they always do actually, saying they'll be delivering tomorrow with priority shipping...

They are indeed very kind and helpfull, and I believe incredibly hard working people , they really just need to put a bit of "science" and organization behind that caos they're currently having.

I agree.  Monks are somewhere between lace ups and loafers in formality.  Some places (and more commonly in the US and Southern Europe), wearing tassle loafers or pennies with a suit is normal formal wear.  But not always.  If you don't really know how people dress in the office, then going with a black cap toe is just never wrong.  It's a shoe that everyone should own anyway - interviews, funerals, whatever.

Personally I wear a black monk quite often with a formal suit, usually because it's an elasticated single monk that I can take off easily (a common social requirement where I live), and I find loafers too casual for a suit usually.  But the double monk is a weird shoe anyway.  It's incredibly popular in the i-gent crowd right now and worn with all sorts of things. I think with both those shiny buckles it's a bit much for real formal wear anyway, but it looks great with jeans or chinos in a contrasting colour.  For me, the "dub monk" is a fun and trendy shoe, but neither really formal for work, or practical as a substitute for loafers - undoing that strap is a bit of a nuisance I think.  Save it for the weekend, and get a more fun colour.

In Spain that's a common misconception. The fact that wearing loafers with a suit has become accepted doesn't make it formal. It's just an accepted form of casualization. They're OK for everyday office wear but for a formal event or meeting of some sort you should still wear lace-ups. Bluchers are considered formal here, though (as long as there's not excessive brogueing)
