I don't think Meermin's leather soles are as sturdy as Allen Edmonds. I wear them out once and they look like I've walked in them for a week. Their 'dainite' soles are okay and better than their leather soles.

I am no leather expert, but how do you judge the leather sole sturdiness based on visual inspection?

No, not on visual inspection of a new leather sole. Just based on the way its worn out after similar number of wears. I know the counter-argument is that one might walk differently yada yada, but tbh, I honestly see that the Meermin's soles wear out faster than AE.

*I just like to brush off my shoes after each wear, so I always notice the soles (particularly the heels and the tips).

I think there were similar opinions embedded somewhere in this thread.

I can only imagine this being true if the wearer buys used Allen Edmonds, but brand new Meermins. Leather soles wear down very quickly in the first few wearings, possibly a couple dozen. After that, they wear as normal. This has been true for every pair of brand new shoes I've ever bought. Meermins may actually wear down more slowly because of the metal nails inserted into tip of the sole.

Yeah soles seem perfectly fine on mine in terms of wear patterns (they did split though ffffuuuu.gif )

To be fair, I was comparing the classic collection shoes with Allen Edmonds Macneils. The AEs were brand new. I don't believe noticing nails in my classic collection shoes, though I might be wrong. I'm abroad so I can't check.

I do stand by my statement on the classic collection soles wearing out quickly compared to my AEs. It might well be this one pair, but I'm prepared to do a test. I have three brand new pairs of classic collection shoes, and a brand new pair of AE. I might wear each of them for a day, and then, post pictures of their soles.

They offered to pay for repairs but no replacement like others got. But in the end you get what you pay for, and cheaper China made shoes are going to have issues

can someone post a pic of themselves wearing some shoes on the new rey last? Not the ankles crossed pic, but like a waist down shot or a POV while standing?

I'm concerned these may be overtly pointy.

You do realize that, apart from the wear issue Dieworkwear mentioned, that your AE MacNeil's have a double leather sole, right?

Just want to say that I see no difference on sole wear and tear for the first day of wearing my EG and Meermin.  And light showers on both days.

 

But in terms of feel of the soles, EG feels beefy and thick, JLP feels very sturdy and buttery, JL feels buttery/soft and somewhat fragile, with C&J handgrade as the base line.  Meermin feels most similar to JLP sans the arch support/stiffener.
