I'd also merit their success to their use of hand-welting in higher end shoes, which adds perceived value, as well as readily accessible MTO. There are a myriad of other factors too, but personally, I'd say much of their success here is due to their niche targeting (intentionally or no) to what SF's current trends desire: shell, MTO, hand-welting, sleek lasts, etc, in addition to pricing which competes well, at the sacrifice of some quality. I'd also wager that their excellent customer service plays a pivotal role in their success here.

Are you referring to their burgundy shell cordovan? Are you sure what you have is shell? I've never handled Argentinian shell, but I've had things made from American (Horween) and Japanese shell, and with both, the fibers are too dense to absorb things like shoe conditioner. Certainly not enough to darken it like you could with calf.

If what you have is indeed their burgundy shell, can you say whether the tone is similar to Horween's shell #8?

Received my Linea Maestro oxfords last week. Excellent quality, period. Better leather than on my Loake 1880s, period. The only thing that bothered me was that Meermin took longer to deliver them than originally promised. At this price point I will be buying from them again, definitely.

Meermin, keep up the good work.

I'm in the process to order a pair of Meerminn shell cordovan, this style:

I've seen dried out shell that looks kind of chalky or pale, and then has its color restored with a bit of renovateur or conditioner, but i cant imagine new shoes would have this problem already

I seem to recall someone asking about chelsea boots, so I thought I'd share some information I got in an email recently. Jose said that they would soon be adding classic collection calfskin chelseas to the website. I responded asking for more details, but I haven't heard back. Anyways, I'm on the market for a pair of chelsea boots, so I'm crossing my fingers that Meermin's end up fitting the bill.

I had placed an order with them last week and according to the FedEx tracking code that was provided to me, the latest update says it's delayed because of the following reason =

 

Shipment requires importer's registration/identification number for clearance.

 

This morning I also got an email from FedEx requesting that I fill out some form with my personal info + importers info and sent it to them. The form says 'importer id input record.'

Needless to sayy, I have no plan of sending them my SS #, etc. 

 

Has anyone had this issue?

 

I just forwarded the info to Sandro and will let them deal with it cause it's not an issue on my end.

 

EDIT: Sandro got back to me and send that this was standard and that FedEx needs that info FROM ME to send me the package. However, I wonder if having to fill this out means I'm going to be hit with a ton of customs fees. Anyone know?

Double Monks arrived today so thought I'd post some first impressions and a few pics - just a message to those ordering these took 60 days to arrive (Which I have no major issues with really) but if you are going to order be prepared for a hefty wait, I assume they've just been struck by high demand.

 

Value - £150 total including shipping - I've got a pair of Herring's double monks - Shakespeare II -  that were a good £50 more expensive and I'd have to say these are without a doubt as if not more solidly constructed (though not as comfortable from first wear). 

 

Construction - Suede seems top notch, few scuffs from travel but nothing a good brush won't iron out. Suede is from Charles Stead the same maker who supplies Alden, I am led to believe, and it seems of good quality with a thick nap and deep colour. The welt stitching is what seems more solid than the Herrings, no fraying, irregular stitches or pulling up of the toe off the welt as some have seen in this thread - mainly with the chukkas. Sole is faux Dainite but in comparison to the Dainite of my AS longwings is of no difference at all which is a good sign as they've been going strong without a resole for a good year with very regular wear. This may seem a totally minor point but the buckles don't feel wiry or tinny and lack the frankly unnecessary antiquing that so annoyed me with the Shakespeare.

 

Last - Sleek but not conspicuous. The toe in my opinion has a perfect almond shape that I feel meets perfectly in the middle of McNairy's blobby monstrosities and the more aggressive Lowndes toe. 

 

Comfort - As I mentioned they aren't as immediately comfortable as my Herrings and do feel a little snug but I think suitably thick socks coupled with regular wear should stretch these out a little though I might ask for a half size up. (anybody else who felt theirs were a little snug manage to stretch them out a little?) I assume they'll only become more comfortable over time and should provide a large amount of wear.  

 

I hope they release some balmoral boots with a suede upper for winter now as I'd definitely buy from them again.

For those wanting a comparison, this is the Carmina Robert last on the left and Olfe on the right. They are very similar in shape and size. The Olfe comes a bit higher up on the heel which is a good thing for me.

Great looking shoes. Could you tell me when you placed your order?
