I was there a little while ago and it seemed like an endless sprawl of strip malls, corporate office parks, and gas stations. I've heard good things about the city, though. Where's all the good stuff?

I live in Houston. Great place to work and save money. Not a great place for fun.

Inside the loop.

River Oaks is very nice.

For fun the Washington Strip, Rice Village, Downtown and other inner loop areas have lots to do.

I lived in NYC on the 50 yd line at 39 E. 68th St. and I don't miss it one bit since moving to Houston many years ago. NYC is great to visit but not to live.

I live in River Oaks. As far as what is there to do? drink, eat, and shop.

There is a new amusement park opening up north houston soon.

This is a start.

If you want symphonies and plays downtown is 15 minutes away.

If you want to run and see beautiful women Memorial Park is 10 minutes away.

If you want decent restaurants and clubs, the Kirby corridor is 5 minutes away and Rice Village and Rice U. are 10 minutes away.

I am not saying that Houston is the equivalent of NYC for things to do but it is much more liveable and there is plenty to do.

I have never known anyone that has moved here and given it a chance that has not liked Houston. That includes rich people and poor college kids looking for their first job.

I have known people that have moved to NYC and loved it and those that have moved there and hated it.

PS:I was not even aware of the amusement park. The old one on the South Loop closed down. And that type of thing reminds me of the stadiums. If you live inner loop then Reliant Park, the Toyota Center and Minute Maid Park are not far.

The new park is in Montgommery County. That is a hike from all but N Houston.

And somehow I think Houstonians will care less about eco friendly than most cities around the nation.

Eco friendly in Houston

Everyone here drives ridiculous trucks or SUV's that get less than 15mpg. We don't care about eco friendly.

highways there are crazy, ime.

My uncle and his family lives in the Woodlands. They seem happy enough. I've worked down in Houston a few times and there is way too many strip malls for my taste, but would maybe be a decent place to live if you could stand driving 30 minutes for anything.

Woodlands is great for families.

Inner Loop is great for singles.
