I had a hard time visualizing how this could happen, unless they were doing something stupid like faux chase-racing and weaving about, or riding each others bumpers. Still, all 8 cars in a row riding bumpers? Ferraris are prohibitively expensive in Jp, I would think most of them would err on the side of caution and baby their rides.

Japanese highways often don't have a shoulder or a median, just an armco in the middle - so it's likely one of the noob types just bounced off the armco and bowled themselves into the rest or spun out in front of everybody, like Nascar. Those Ferraris are so fast as well, the 90mph or so that they were doing is barely the beginning of where they get good and feel in control.

high powered mid-engine or rear-engine cars behave in really unpredictable ways when the rear tires break grip...especially if you're used to a front engine car and/or front drive. i don't know how experienced these guys were.

i also don't have an answer for how one person spinning out could take all of the other cars out with him.

At 90 MPH, even with the high powered brakes and light bodies, it takes some time and distance to come to a stop even if the drivers had perfect reflexes. I assume they were in some kind of fairly tight formation. It isn't completely inconceivable to me that they'd get into a pile up...Plus they're azn drivers foo.gif

Thinking distance is 99ft at 90mph. I've never seen a convoy that can manage to keep a 30m gap between each car. Its much more common to see 10m max. All it takes i 1 guy to spin and the concertina effect would have screwed them all.

Pretty much what I was thinking.

It seemed like one guy shifted lanes, probably gunning the accelerator at the same time, causing him to swerve into the divider or some kind of barricade and then over correcting or simply bouncing back into the other cars. NASCAR pile up style.
