^ ugh, a wear-once-in-a-blue-moon boot is not on my worth-a-grand shoe itinerary. If I buy these bal boots, I want them to go with everything, and I want them to make everything I wear look better. I'd rather go for impressive subtlety than ostentation. Oh well.

you make a very good point. I own more shoes than i need so I can entertain the idea of the navy boot. But I still think one of the darker browns will be our best bet

No speed hooks, unfortunately. Which is why I tie them low.

Haha, no worries. I wish they had speed-hooks though. I find myself using them less because of how annoying they are to put on.

I'm OK with the $1K pricing, but it's up there where I'm going to have to get the boot I want without too many concessions. I'm sure we all feel that way. I'm not going to do red or navy. Color will have to be something more conventional. Burgundy, Chestnut, Saddle, in that order, based on the options Mike outlined. I do like the dark cognac, if that's what's in the photo we've been looking at. I'm fine with speed hooks. I like the welting in the photo boot. Don't think I'd care for 360 welt on a boot like this. Still plugging for the straight tip (no perf/brogue on the cap). Let's see how things develop and if the numbers all come out right.

I know I am new to the discussion, but I have been looking for a suitable pair of shell cordovan boots and have not been able to find anything available.

I would probably be in for the bal boot if it were in the darkest brown color possible (that would appear to be chestnut). I'm sure burgundy would look great, but burgundy or color 8 is about the most easily accesible color so why do a make up out of it.

As a number people have noted. At this price, I do need something that I would get the most use out of. Though deep red or loden would be pretty tempting.

This is pretty sweet!  I might be able to wrap my head around paying $1000 for that boot!

I'm pretty interested in the boot and shortwing ideas, but I'm worried about the fit especially the width. I still haven't been able to get a concrete answer about Carmina's width system.
