Just out of curiosity (since I've never seen/worn them), what are Dainite soles like? Do they feel like rubber soles on cheaper shoes (e.g., Johnston & Murphy)?

And isn't there a bit of a taboo surrounding rubber soles when it comes to higher tiers of men's shoes? Even if that's untrue, what are the benefits over opting for a leather sole?

They feel like rubber soles, and are more durable for inclement weather that a leather soul would possibly crack in..... I think atleast shog[1].gif

Yeah, they're made for inclement weather. Constantly getting leather wet erodes it more quickly. They're also more casual, which isn't a feature, per se. If you live somewhere with decent amounts of rain, a pair of shoes with a Dainite soles is a nice option.

This is why I ordered the black scotch grain boot with Dainite soles...needed something for inclement weather than was dressy enough to wear to work (business casual).

I think the Danite thats on the Thompson Suede PTB is the one that Mike recommends, York sole I believe? Is that still a "Danite" sole?

I think the "York" sole is the "Dainite combo" (Dainite heel and toe with a leather bridge). Here's a link to a post earlier in this thread from Mike about the York sole with a picture showing the sole in regard to the pre-order for the chestnut shell balmoral boots.

Is "York" an Epaulet-specific designation for this combo leather-rubber sole? Dainite is just a manufacturer of rubber soles who happen to make very good ones. They have several types that you can see on their website: http://www.dainite.com/flash.html The mini-studded sole that is the rubber half of the York doesn't seem to be listed, but that doesn't mean they don't make it.

Hey guys,

Just want to check - here's things from my side:

JODPHUR BOOT
This sounds great - let's roll with this for a late October-mid November Makeup. I love the idea of midnight calf with a grey suede strap. Carmina's on vacation for two weeks, so we have some time to get it going. I'll try to put together a photoshop mockup of it.

DAINITE SOLES FOR JODPHUR BOOT
If you've never worn a Dainite sole before, then you're missing out. I mostly hate rubber soles on proper shoes. But Dainite is a wonderful beast onto itself. It has a classic look, it's tough as hell, and it has a slim profile that looks close to a leather sole when viewed from the side. For these boots, there would be two options:

Classic Dainite Sole: We did this on the Black Bal boot. It's an all-rubber, black sole. Great slim profile, but will "darken" the sole

York Dainite Sole: This is a combination of rubber and leather. It's manufactured by Dainite, but is a different model than the classic Dainite.

It's up to you guys. Using the York sole will give the edge a brown trim that will contrast nicely with the midnight calf upper. It's a wider and thicker sole unit though. The Classic Dainite will make the sole essentially look black (not a bad thing, that's a nice minimal match to the midnight upper) and will give a slimmer profile. Both will be tough and well suited for lousy weather. Midnight calf isn't chromexcel, but it's not something that you have to baby either.

WHOLECUT
I'm all for this. I took a pic of a very nice wholecut with a medallion on the toe - could be a cool way to tweak the otherwise "stock" style that Carmina offers. If there's interest, I can put it up in both Midnight calf and Caramel calf. Price would be around $550 with trees.

RUBY SHELL
No word on this yet, but you guys will absolutely be the first to know. I have a standing order for enough Ruby shell to cover 30 units. Once I get confirmation of when we can get it, we'll hash out how to put it best to use.

10/15 REORDER
So, our latest Carmina delivery sold like gangbusters, and I'm going to reorder some styles. They are:

* Burg Shell Salinger Double Monk
* Caramel Calf Salinger Double Monk
* Chocolate Calf Fitzgerald Shortwing

We typically order sizes 7UK through 11UK. If you need a smaller or larger size than that - or you want a wide in the Chocolate Calf Fitzgerald, then let me know and we can accomodate your size via special order. It's a 50% deposit, and final sale. Price is the same as our usual retail.

Thanks!
Mike

Hey Mike - will all your future Carmina orders only go as big as 11UK? I finally bit the bullet and ordered the Black Salinger Double Monks that you still had available in 11.5UK. I'm not sure if they're going to fit yet, but if they do I'm sure I will be back for more in the future happy.gif

Mike,

I would like the full dainite sole.

I personally do NOT like the brown edge trim, I find that it makes less dressy.

I'm all for midnight navy, grey suede strap (love the contrast, thanks NAMOR), and full dainite sole with the black edge.

What do you guys say?

This sounds awesome!!

Serious question that isn't meant to poke at anyone: How/with what would you wear dark blue shoes? I'm having a hard time imagining these jodhpurs fitting into any outfit.

I found this on the armoury blog, so we're going with this styling with grey strap, and dainite sole?

Are we putting a medallion on?
