Shoe Damage Question

Hi all -
I got these shoes recently and noticed the mark below when polishing after wearing 4-5 times. It's therefore possible that the shoes did not come this way, although I don't recall any event that might have caused it. It's close to the sole and I'm not that picky about things like these, so it's not that big a deal, but if there's any advice about what this is, whether it might get worse, and what I can do to make it either go away or at least not progress, that would be very helpful. Thanks!

It's hard to say what it is. It mostly just looks like dye from the edge dressing of the soles, in which case it is harmless. Although it will not go away completely without having the shoe stripped and refinished (Which I would NOT do in this case.) If the surface of the leather has been opened up there is a chance that the area will be weakened and eventually might open up further.

In any case there is nothing to do but maintain them normally and see what happens. It looks pretty much harmless to me.

But that looks like a pretty nice shoe (closed stitching aloft?) You have reason to expect better from a quality shoe and I suggest inspecting new shoes closely for defects. After wearing them 4 or 5 times it's pretty much too late to complain about finishing issues, isn't it?

Yea, I think it is - I'm not really asking for whether i should be asking for any money back, more just how I should care for shoes thusly afflicted. it i indeed a quality shoe - in all other respects I'm very satisfied with it.

These things happen, even from the very good makers. They are after all made by people.

Some people go all bonkers and I can somewhat understand why. But I tend to shrug off something that took me four or five wearings just to notice myself. Afterall, they are only perfect until you wear them out the door anyway. After that they are going to acquire the scars of life and that (within reason) only makes them better.

It all be good!
