Seeking a pair of leather footwear to wear with shorts - Page 3

They look like driving shoes to me - wouldn't you wear the sole out pretty quickly with normal walking?

Yes they are driving shoes, but I don't know why you'd wear the sole out any faster then regular shoes.  I think you might be misunderstanding what a "driving" shoe is.  A driving shoe simply means that the back of the  is rounded down towards the sole so it doesn't create a cut in a carpeted floor mat of the car (so nothing rough is resting and cutting up the carpet while your foot is on the pedal).

I live in the tropics and it is like you're in soup in summer time.

The only time I wear shorts is at the beach or pool.

so what do you wear? baggy jeans? baggy wool dress pants?

I wear slimmer penny loafers or cordovan tassels with shorts.

Tassel loafers are great.

But if you are likely to spend a bit, have a look of 'Shang Hai' shoe by Church, very causal and suitable with either jeans or shorts, a very preppy pair

But don't expect its construction would be as great as the big names, my friend had one and they are certainly well made

My suggestion is very edgy so check it out in person to see whether you like them or not

But in my opinion that shoe on causal clothes is perfection

??

probably linen pants or light cotton pants

linen rules and light linen pants are about as comfortable (prolly more so) than cotton shorts in the summer

incotex chinolinos (linen/cotton blend) are also great

but I casually wear around plenty of shorts in the summer. any errand, etc

you can never go wrong with tassel loafers:

Some suede bucks? Honestly I'm not sure how you can see a pair of sneakers as "ghetto." I mean white jack purcells are the last thing a "ghetto" person is going to wear. Adidas Rod Laver Vintage, Sebago, any other clean casual shoes works with shorts. Or boat shoes as people mentioned. Loafers are ok, but I don't think it works on most people. And you need to buy some good ones since they need to have nice leather so they don't smell. Drivers are nice, but really not optimal for any walking.

Toms and that style is another option.

I've never liked loafers with shorts. It just looks affected to me. I usually wear a pair of camp mocs these days, used to be boat shoes. At least, in terms of leather shoes. I find myself wearing sandals (mature leather slides) or canvas sneakers much more often. And canvas sneakers, sockless with clean cut shorts (as in, not baggy as all hell with a billion pockets) is about as far from ghetto as you can find. Not to mention that canvas is a lot cooler than leather.

They tend to wear out faster because there is both less material on the sole as well as the fact that driving shoes typically use soft rubber. Similar situation for shoes that use crepe soles, they just don't last as long.

Makes perfect sense.  Thanks for the info, I never knew this.
