Three piece suit etiquette.

Just curious, is there any etiquette regarding how one wears a tie? I see some pop up the tie, make it stand erect, and some make it flat I guess.  Just a matter of preference?

Some would consider tie erection the main reason to wear a vest in the first place.

I've always liked the look of a dimple or even reversed dimple of sorts, but I think the puffy look works best with ascots and cravats.
