non collapsing collars - Page 2

I'm surprised you have the problem with the eton's.. I have a number and they (the newer models, ie the last 4 or so years), in my experience, hold up quite well. perhaps an ironing issue as well. Also, point collars, once again in my experience, do not hold their stand as well as semi, fulls, and cutaways.

For shirts that you already own, could a tailor not just sew in some stays for you? I've never tried this but it must be possible.

This is terrible advice. Starch decreases longevity of any fabric, especially collars.

Sewing in collar stays will make the collars shiny and un-managable with washing and pressing.

Thanks for the advise everyone.

The Eton shirts I find tend to have more of an issue with the collar band more than with the collar leaf itself. It spreads out, leaving the collar looking like something John Travolta would wear in Saturday Night Fever.

I looked at Ledbury. From their site the collars tend to look like wings as they sit parallel with the shoulders rather than standing up and the leaf turned down. I may order one to see how they are.

I'll see if I can take some pics of the issues I'm facing and post them

cheers!

I've never had a problem with Ledbury collars collapsing and I hate collar wings. They may spread out a tiny bit but I doubt you will find a collar that will stand straight up without the support of a jacket or the top button being buttoned.

I know they might not be cool, but I just got some of the magnetic stays and they're great when not wearing a tie. Very clean look.

I think starching and getting some use out of a shirt would be preferable to having the thing sitting abandoned in a closet because the collar is too limp to wear without embarrassment. And shirt longevity is overrated, I look for excuses to get rid of the older ones so I can get new ones anyways.

But I agree that sewn in collar stays are awful.

Stiff collar stays in the correct size for one (if they're too small, they'll just flip over)

Starch helps.

But I agree with the previous comment: If you're not wearing a tie, wear a button down collar.
