Hi all.
This is my first post here. I REALLY need some help with styling.
First of all, a couple of pics of me:
http://i.imgur.com/bfd9m.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/ZzrOr.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/3QHnZ.jpg
Now some facts about me:
1. I'm 18 year old
2. I'm an Indian
3. I have dark complexion
4. I'm 5'10", 33" waist
5. I NEED SOME REAL HELP
What my current winter wardrobe is:
1. Jeans: 3 Blue, 2 black, 1 faded green (I never wear this one), 2 greyish (pencil fit)
2. Sweaters: 1 Grey/Black, 1 Grey (Both look nice on me)
3. Sweatshirts: 1 Magenta (Zipper), 1 Black hoodie, 1 black without hoodie, 1 grey (oversized)
4. Tshirts: 2 with collar (Both with shades of yellow and purple)
5. Shirts: 6 all in different colors (none is slim fit)
6. Shoes: 1 black pair, 1 white Adidas (both look good/both sports)
If you want, I can post pics of my current wardrobe.
This might be a lot, but it's not. There's no real variety. Plus, most of my clothes are not the perfect fit; all are a bit larger.
I'm always finding myself repeating clothes, and colors are also not good (according to me).
Here's what I need help with:
I would really like to know what kind of clothes, and which colors would look better on me.
I would like to know the clothes that I can wear on everyday basis (read not-party-wear).
I would like to wear the clothes that make me look a little tall, and do not highlight my dark complexion.
ALSO!
THIS ONE IS REAL IMPORTANT.
I'm passing out of my high school in 2 months, and there's this farewell even that our school organizes. AND I NEED SOME CLOTHES FOR THAT!
What I need for that is a suit. I've thought of something like this:
(The right one of course).
Or:
I really want to look "dashing" that day. I can get a bespoke suit as well.
Please help me in all this.
Thank You.
Karan
PS: I'm ready to devote as much time looking for clothes as required.

for you to reach number 2 will take either a lot of time waiting for buy/sell forum sales or $$ since your in highschool its probably limited. my advice wear whatever you want and enjoy it its high school don't over think it too much. theres also a small questions thread.
theres nothing wrong with a small wardrobe as long as they all go well together you can make it last

honestly, if i were in your shoes, i would walk into j. crew or similar mall store and just be like, 'i have $500 to spend, will you help me find an outfit that fits me'?'
since you didn't bother to do any research, i'm guessing you consider looking presentable to be the end-goal rather than cultivating taste and an appreciation for style

No but that's what the problem is. My wardrobe is small, but nothing is that good. I like the 2 sweaters I have, but don't want to over-wear them. I like 2 sweatshirts, but again, I can't really repeat them like every 2 days. I'm not that good with combinations, really.!

Yes, at the moment, I haven't done much research. Just read a lot of blog posts about casual wear and all. But what I couldn't find was some information on clothing for teens with dark complexions. Some say white will do, others despise white. A site says that grays would work for me, another says to avoid grays.
And that's where I'm struck. I myself don't know what really makes me look good. :(

I think you're worrying too much about your "dark complexion." I'm still unclear with what you need specific help with. Sounds like you need to buy trimmer cut clothes that actually fit you. It would also help if you didn't sag your pants, perhaps that's simply the consequence of poorly fitting pants.

I just need to look good. And I'm absolutely clueless about how to do that.
And yes, from now on, I'll be buying only those clothes that fit me. I won't listen to the sales person saying "This is fine, it's comfortable".

If you spend enough time on SF you will develop your own taste. You will see things you like and things you dont like. Take note, but don't go out and spend all your money tomorrow based on what you see on some forum today. There is no such thing as quick fix. These things take time. If you really want to "look good" then the first thing you'll need is patience. And of course, buy clothes that fit, don't fall for every trend.

First off, with your complexion, you can actually do a broader palette of colours than very light skinned guys can do (in my opinion). I'm guessing you live in India, right? You're not going to get much help here in terms of 'what colours should I wear, what colours go with what other colours'. The best thing to do, if you're really interested in dressing better, is to peruse magazines etc., find things you like and then try to emulate them.
One thing is for sure, judging by your pics - you need to find a good tailor. In India (if that's where you live) you'll be lucky because you'll be able to find a good tailor that doesn't charge you a lot of money. Don't go for the cheapest one, spend enough that you're getting someone who knows what they're doing. You said you'd buy clothes that fit you but that isn't always going to happen. A good tailor is an absolute must. You can buy things that fit a bit better and then take them in for final adjustment.
If you're interested enough in this stuff to post here, you have an idea of what looks good and what doesn't. I don't fully believe that you have no idea what looks good. If you could walk into a very good clothing store with $10,000 and spend 2 days trying on whatever you wanted, with no one hurrying you, you would come up with some good pieces, some good combinations. Try something and go with it.
Last piece of advice. There are some people here who take the term 'hidebound' to new heights. However, there is value in 'classic' looks, with solid colours and clean lines. Think simple, is my advice to you, especially in the beginning.
Oh, and one more thing - never underestimate the value of a really good pair of shoes. You didn't show us what shoes you were wearing in pic # 3 but if they're the '1 black pair, sports shoes' you mentioned, it's a mistake.

Just do a lot of reading here. Even if you don't have something in time for your event, dressing well will be a lifelong thing. I've finally learned better and moved on from years of my mom telling me to always buy relaxed fit because it's more comfortable. Still a pair of levi 569 (that I never wear) sitting in my closet... my god I could probably fit both my legs in one leg of those things.

Firstly, you're not all that dusky. What do you think you are? A Tamil? Anyway, you can wear just about anything. Keep this in mind: white to the face. It'll really pop.
You still reside on the subcontinent? You face limited selection of really good quality stuff, and when imported it's priced too dear. Many local tailors are also drapers; I just don't know what you can expect to find. I'm sure they have nice tassles.
If you're living in Pitampura and are thinking about a bespoke suit you (or rather your parents) have money. What's your budget? $500? $5000? Have you thought about calling the local hotels such as the Oberoi or Leela and find out what shopping and tailors they have? International class hotels often have international class shopping. I live near the Hyatt, which has Zegna, Kiton, Loro Piana stores and a couple very good tailors. Another hotel 10 minutes away has a John Lobb shoe store, Colombo cashmere, etc.
Re the shirts you're wearing. Look at the waist. See how it billows out and over your belt? If you don't have money you could take those shirts to a cheap seamstress and have them altered a bit to get you a trimmer fit.
