party bar

having a birthday party for my wife, with about 50 guests. we will have a bartender and a waiter. we wil have mostly appetizers. we will have mulled wine, red and white wine, beer, and I want to get stuff to make up a good bar, so that the bartender can make a wide range of drinks.

so, please guide me - what should i get? suggest quantities, suggest brands, as well. although, to be pretty clear, I don't want to buy premium brands to have my friends drink.

I think the following spirits will be sufficient: vodka (Svedka), gin (Tanqueray), rum (Bacardi), and whiskey (Jack D./Jim B.). Get the 1.75 L bottle if possible. You'll also need a bottle of triple sec, which is an essential ingredient in sours.

Lots of lemons and limes, juiced in advance.

Mixers (tonic water, club soda, cranberry juice, etc.).

Might want to get some Cachaça, too, if your guests like Caipirinha - just take Pitu, or if you want to get something more fancy, Nega Fulo .
My votes go for Finlandia vodka, Havana Club rum and probably Bombay Sapphire rum as it's a little cheaper than Tanqueray ihere in Germany.
You can get triple sec from Bols. Might want to get a bottle of gum syrup, too. Probably grenadine, too. And juices. But honestly, it might get a little too much. You've already got wine and beer, probably sodas and now you want to offer lots of drinks, too. Probably should focus on some classics. Cuba Libre, Mojito, Caipirinha, maybe Gin Fizz and Gin Tonic, Whiskey cola or so.

I think the bartender can assisst you the best with the proper amounts to buy.

What you don't want to do is to try to build a complete bar for one party. Instead, come up with 2-3 signature cocktails that you can offer along with the wine/beer, then buy just the ingredients for those cocktails.

can't agree with that, only buy Saphire Bombay or your friends will have a headache they will forget how good the party was. For my last party I had a great rescue when they were going to empty the last bottles, some wine in a box. Actually even good wines now come in boxes which can last up to 3 months.

Maker's Mark is so much better than Jack/Jim for not that much more.
