Did I get duped with these

Long story short never had brown double monks before.

When I got them home to give them a polish I noticed that the tongue were of a completely different colour with a perfectly marked overlap where the flap had been. The rest of the shoe seems brown but the tongue looks a burgundy. This appears on both shoes.

Is this normal? Or have these shoes been dyed poorly or are seconds?? I've not seen these with my black or suede monkstraps and would love a bit of advice.

Thank you in advance.

They look to be sun-damaged. Perhaps they were displayed in a window for a long time.

I see, would it be possible to just give them a good leather treatment and polish them up? If not I'm going to take them back.

I concur with Malford, they look sun faded to me. With a good treatment they will probably look just fine. Although I have no idea if the sun damage might shorten their longevity.

Whether or not to take them back would depend on the price paid if it were me. If I paid full price they would be going back. But if deeply discounted I'd keep for sure.

Scribes are really good shoes. They should last for many years and color is just so easily dealt with.

Thank you for the help gents, i'm going to go back to Bally and just ask the to condition them.

I dont have the shoes with me right now but funny thing, my shoes are the EXACT same ones as these here

Same colour style, everything, even the ridge on the bottom of the shoe. Except my ones are a size 9 US.

Bally Scribes are fantastic, but sadly do not fit me well. I've tried a few pairs/lasts and each had at least two issues. However, for each pair, one issue was a pronounced feeling of my heel/ankle area sitting too high in the shoe, as if there was a thick insole in that area.

Well, it's not normal, and as Malford suggests, it may be because the rest of shoe has faded a bit from sun/light exposure.

However, if you got the shoes for a good price, and if it is only the tongue area that is the darker colour and it is covered up when you are wearing the shoes, I wouldn't be concerned about it. After all, no-one but you will know that the tongue of the shoe is darker and no-one will care.

No one will notice and I even think it adds a nice touch of personality. My concern would be that sun damage might have made the leather more brittle, but I'm not sure about that.

They look like they spent a year drying out and getting sunbleached in the Alice Springs sun. You want Bally then go here:http://www.bally.com/bally/home/realgender/man/tskay/BCAD6A87/gender/U
