You have clearly never been to one. The distinguishing characteristic of the habituées being that they are people who should most definitely keep their clothes ON.

And yes, there are limitations on certain items (you could cover the excess with a cheap rider eg diamond ring) but some of these limitations only apply to theft and not fire so read the policy.

And btw, you do not need a receipt to make a claim either in the UK or US, that's a misconception most people have.

I meant you need a receipt/proof of purchase to ADD the specified high value item to the policy in the first place, not at time of claim. My insurer specifically requested such a proof of purchase/cost when I added a couple of high-value items (non-clothing, as it happens) to my policy. I'm lucky in that my policy can already cover even my bespoke clothes under its regular single item limit; in fact that was a selling point for me as it meant a lower overall premium (and hassle!) compared to having to add them piecemeal to a less generous policy.

OK I understand you now. And yes, you can get higher limits on some policies on those handful of items that have limits without adding a rider. But clothes are not one of those items that have a limit so you can collect the full value, unless it's some diamond encrusted item which would then come under jewellery.

And btw,I think we're talking here about partial losses because in the case of a full loss you would be paid the face amount of the policy eg like your house is burnt to the ground.
