Yes, but in reality, how do you recuperate all of it? How do you prove you own such and such? Do they give retail back?

Probably run up to Target and get some underclothes, khakis, polos, etc., on the cheap until I could get something decent at my leisure.

Given that most purchases are done online, most receipts are in your inbox ;-).

I'd start with underpants. then move to pants, then socks, and maybe shirts. I'd probably stay shirtless for a while though and tell everyone about the fire.

Of course. I'd just replace everything. My homeowners insurance covers replacement cost. A standard homeowners policy covers contents for 50% the value of the property and that's without any riders for very expensive items like jewellery of paintings. So if my $6m house burnt to the ground for example, I'd collect $6m for the property and $3m for the contents.

If any of yu live in apts. then you should get a tenant's policy which covers mostly cntents and is cheap. The building is the owner's problem and no he will not cover your property if the building burns down.
