Actually wore a brown crepe wool suit today.

Light blue, light pink if you have a darker skin tone.

I guess my question is, what doesn't go with brown? It's not my favorite color range for suitings, but I have a 3pc brown pinstripe I dust off on occasion...

I like the pale blue and dark brown combo.
You could also go for a mustard yellow shirt for that late sixties look.

It depends how you will be wearing the suit and what level of formality you wish to convey...
I've seen a white shirt combined with a rich orange silk tie... that worked for me.
then again on a more earthy level, and I guess slightly for casual, there is the option of other greens or browns to compliment (i'm thinking more like khaki than lime!, or possibly olive green), you could always pick it out with a nice cream tie, if you really feeling up for it go leather and thin!

The safest bet by far is the white/off white!

I would definitely not wear white because unless you are wearing a solid tie most of the ties that are made have cream or ecru in them and once that is put up against a white shirt I think looks awful. I would do ercu, cream and then branch off into the colors such as pink and pale blue. But it's really depends on your neckwear

This has been a huge dilema for me as well. I have a brown Canali suit and the only shirt I am comfortable wearing with it is actually a light yellow with a very subtle brown/pink windowpane design. I have blonde hair and a fair complexion and wear black and brown prescription glasses.

I am going to try out a light blue shirt, as to everyone's suggestion.

Why not a "bold" blue shirt? Looks great with brown, IMA. I think that light blue shirts with a brown suit sometimes look a bit too "neutral".

Not sure about the macclesfield tie (but hey, you're the expert). Otherwise I was going to say something very similar.

My favourite winter suit is dark brown one. I often combine it with a blue shirt (not pale blue, rather kind of strong blue, but neither dark nor light), or a green shirt (toward the darker end of the green scale), or with an off white shirt. Sometimes I also wear it with a shirt having a strange colour between mauve and pink (a quite "pronounced" colour), or with a shirt having wide stripes in a bourgogne kind of colour.
I mean, actually all of them combine well with the colour of the suit, but some give rise to raised eyebrows among my more conservative colleagues.

I agree. I wear a lot of brown during the fall and winter seasons and I, too, like to match them with "strong" colours. I have even done a rasberry-coloured shirt with certain brown and tan suits and sport coats. My advice is to free yourself from "tradition" and experiment with colours that range in green, blue, lavender, red, and pink flavored tones. You might be pleasantly surprised by the results!

Have fun!
