Well, some people just have old things from their relatives, living or dead. I doubt that he bought the sash.

I think it likely that ou have already put more thought into what he is wearing than did he.

As for where to get one today, I have no idea. The last time I saw one in a store was in Tripler many years ago.

I think that sash actually looks pretty cool, although agreed that it would look better tied a little higher. Would probably look nice with black tie in the summer.

Now all I need to do is acquire one... Too bad none of my relatives were British officers in colonial India. That would make things much simpler.

Would this black Aquascutum coat be an acceptable garment to wear over a dinner suit in most cool/cold/wet weather situations?

Why not?

With white silk scarf and appropriate hat, say a Homburg or Lord's hat, and you would be suitably attired. You would only need some nice gloves.

Over at Politico there's some photos of the White House state dinner last night. Interesting to me was how few peak lapels there were, although it looks like Joe did his part.

I am getting married next summer. Both myself and my brother (best man) will be wearing morning wear. It may well be the only time in my life I will have a chance to wear it, so Im going for it.

You'd be surprised at how cheaply you can pick one up and how often you will actually wear it. I currently go to 3-5 black tie events a year. Most of my friends now own their own and we routinely don them for various functions. -- I live in the Midwest.
