Is it worth the risk bidding for this item on eBay?

There is a seller on eBay selling a briefcase I am interested in, however he has 2 positive feedback, and 1 negative. Is there any risk to bidding? I don't want to be out $400+ dollars (normal price in store is about $700) if I get scammed. Was thinking ebay buyer protection would back me up here but what if the sellers just sends an empty box with a tracking number? What is your take on the situation?

You cannot judge by feedback, which is subject to manipulation/prejudice. Case and point: I bought a $12 item from someone with an impressive record, only to have to resort to contacting both EBAY and PayPal to get my money back. The seller returned my notes sent via EBAY, but purposely avoided my questions like a trolling weasel. =^.^=
If you can afford to lose the money, and/or are willing to argue with EBAY/PayPal, go for it! Most sellers are legitimate.

^While that's true, it's also the only objective data you have on the guy. Also, what were the 2 positive reviews for? Selling or buying? Maybe he's a good buyer, but a bad seller.

Personally, I'd wait. Then again, I'm really risk averse.

You're pretty well protected as long as you go through ebay, paypal, etc. I really don't see how you can lose out. In fact, let's say he sends you an empty box and paypal doesn't rule in your favor, you could simply say it's not as described for xx reason and ship back an empty box. As long as you have your tracking number for your return, you'll end up getting a refund like that.

Nataku just had a thread a couple weeks ago about getting the shaft from an eBayer on a large scale. Scamming does happen as eBay is such a buyer's market.

^^^ +1. I got scammed out of $800 and my sweater and the scammer made a total of $2300 off of me. ffffuuuu.gif

eBay is all about the buyer. Whatever the buyer says is right. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy something. It's selling on eBay that you have to be wary of.

still concerned, there is only 1 bid and it is from a zero feedback buyer and the auction is about to end in about 3 hours, shill bidding? how low can this seller go?

Don't follow through. You're obviously not comfortable bidding.

Ask him a legitimate question and see what his response time is. That should give you a sign of how the rest of the sale should follow through.
