opinions on my styleforum LS shortwings

I have a beautiful pair of the Leather Soul styleforum short wings that I love. But when I first pulled them from the box I noticed that on the right shoe, the top of the front are was imperfect and not smooth. Now I own 5-6 other pair of Alden shell, and certainly understand that shell is a natural material so I wasn't that worried about it. I chalked it up to the shoes have additional "character." Today I noticed that there was a crease, and that there looked to be another developing across the entire shoe. It isn't doing this on the left shoe where the shell is smooth and regular.

My question is do you think that this will lead to problems in the future? If a crease does develop? In full disclosure, I haven't contacted LS yet about it but wanted some feedback first.

Thanks in advance - Jim

Welcome to Styleforum.
I have only owned 2 pair of shell cordo and neither had the rolls formed when new. It may be possible that someone else had tried them on before you Were the soles scuffed when you received them? Possible signs of walking on a carpet perhaps?
If the soles were unscuffed and in pristine condition, then I myself have a question to the cordo owners...Can shell develop the rolls while in storage, and if so, what causes it? Temperature/humidity fluctuations?
Back to your pair, Are you using shoe trees? If not, start doing so. This will help maintain the original shape of the shoes.
Congratulations on a beautiful pair by the way. May you enjoy them in good health.

Is this what you are talking about?

If so, then I think you don't really have anything to worry about.  As you said, cordovan is a natural material and will be prone to inconsistencies.  Plus, you obviously have worn them a good amount based on the normal creasing on the vamp - I doubt LS would be likely to allow you to return / exchange at this point.  I have also found that my shoes crease differently from right to left, due to slight variances in foot size (I imagine based on the above pictures that your right foot is slightly wider than your left).

Regarding the question on the rolls from MOL, it has been my experience that shell will not crease or roll without someone forcing it to do so (either due to trying on / walking around, or I have seen some salesmen manually bend the toe upward prior to trying it on a customer - facepalm.gif )

Shoe trees will reduce the appearance of the rolls, but will not eliminate them.  But, that's partially why I like cordovan so well - they have a very pleasant appearance as they are worn and break in (better than calf creases, in my opinion).

yes, that small circle it what Im talking about. I didn't think about returning them, I was hoping for some feedback that I wouldn't be looking at problems down the road. I use shoe trees when not worn, absolutely. And they're not completely broken in yet, they're getting there. I suppose I'll just happily wear them and enjoy them.

To attend to the small scratch and shell cordovan care, you may find this interesting:
