Gotta go with the original Die Hard. Die Harder is pretty good, but Die Hard with a Vengeance is just trying to hard.

I think that's why I like it so much. NYC, Willis and SLJ's racial banter and Irons' German accent. All great and entertaining. I do love the first one as well, and can probably add to the list. Not a fan of the 2nd Die Hard.

The three things you mention are all things I really like about the movie, especially the fact that the movie opens with the demolition of the historical Bonwit Teller store. That said, there's no Holly McClaine/Gennaro subplot, Reginald Vel Johnson is nowhere to be found, there is no doubting cop angle, and worst of all is that they mistimed the use of the "Yippy Kai Aye..." line.
